Default 88 RX Turbo

I can't find to much info on these. There's one for sale that I'm thinking about buying. The body and interior are messed up, but the mechanics seem good.

It has a replaced engine with about 50k miles on it. Needs a radiator. There is a slight exhaust smell. Otherwise its all in good shape.

Any thoughts? It would be my first car, they want $1000.

Body and interior messed up?

$350

Needs a radiator?

$300

The only thing really special about the RX is the body kit and the tranny.. if the car is trashed.. its not worth $1000

Thanks for the reply. I don't think its worth $300, maybe $1000 is too much but $300 is low.

I said the body was messed up, the hood has a few large dents (not from a car accident). They do have a new hood for it. So if I installed that and painted it, it'd be fine. The car could use a little touch up paint in other areas too.

Also they do have another radiator for it. Unfortunately its not the correct one, so it does little good.

One more thing is that they have an extra turbo for it.

The performance is my main concern, it has a newer clutch, new timing belts, new turbo hose, and new front brake pads.

Well.. that doesn't sound so bad then.. a lot depends on where you are too.. people that live in the rust belt tend to pay more for rust free soobs...

OTOH.. I just saw an 87-88 RX in denver sell for $500.. all it needed was a new turbo(which I have an extra one or two in my garage.. just didn't have $500 bones)

you said the interior is trashed too.. in my book, that is cause for substantial markdown...

RX motor parts are easy to find(any turbo EA82 will do).. RX interior parts are not.

like I said.. a lot depends on where you live, and true condition.. my initial price estimate was based on your initial description.

For any 80s soob, for $1000 you should be able to drive it home.. possibly even cross country.. if, for whatever reason, you can't do that..its not worth nearly $1000

Just my opinion.

Hmm, this one is in (or right outside) Denver. I'm not too sure about this but I thought turbos cost a bit of money.... Turbos do break now and then, so its a bonus that this one has an extra IMO.

Ok, I wasn't very descriptive in the first post, so here's what I should've said.

The body is good except for the hood. It has new hood that can be installed.

Paint is as good as can be expected for an 88.

The interior has three problems. The back seat "head rest" has a tear in it. The roof upholstery is completely torn up. The steering column is broken.

Otherwise the interior is fine. Good front seats, floor, dash, and the back seats are perfect except for the one flaw.

It needs a new radiator. And new tires in a few months. Everything else works fine.

Well, its a good thing our house is close by...

Actually, this car runs super. We've taken it for two drives, each about 4 miles. It ran smooth down the highway at 70 mph. Good clutch, brakes, steering, transmission, etc.

The only potential problems I can see is that someone tried to steal it (hence the broken steering column), and that it has a replaced engine (could be a good thing or a very bad thing).

Ok..
$600-$800 tops..

of course.. you could just pay asking price, fix everything and enjoy it for years to come without ever regretting how much you paid.. its all about how much you want it.

You are in CO? thats one of the 3 biggest old school soob ares in the country.. parts.. even turbos shouldn't be too hard to find for a reasonable price in the yards..

Yes, turbos do crap out ocasionally.. but to give you an idea of value.. one of my spares.. I paid $250.. but that was for the whole car minus the alternator..

The one I am currently using.. $100.. but again, that was for the whole car, running and driving..(however, not the same car I am driving now)

Its all relative to the deals you can find, how easy parts are to get and how much you want it.
