Angry Why is my face still swollen?

I got into a fight March 18, and came away with a nice shiner as a walking prize. The day after, my cheek swelled up. My shiner went away but my cheek is still a little swollen right around the cheekbone. What the hell?

Did you get into a fight with a Ninja?

If so... I think you've been poisoned.

Ibuprofen is good for reducing swelling. You might want to take 3 to 4 - 200mg pills.

May have a zygomatic fracture. Did you see a doctor after it happened?

Yep, could be. It's the second most common facial fracture (nose is #1). Most often caused by car acidents or fists. Should be checked by a doctor, especially if it is painful to the touch or if you have pain while chewing or any numbness in the face.

That is a really hard bone to break, he'd have much more to worry about if his cheekbone had broken... like maybe a freakin' concussion.

The swelling could just be blood trapped, but you really should go see a doctor, that's not normal any way you look at it.

And of course if you have any double vision...see an ophthalmologist.

Not actually as hard as you'd think. The orbit is 'designed' to break and protect the eyeball. Kind of like an ocular crumple zone.

Get in another fight and see if it happens again. Other than that it might be a hairline crack in the bone or like someone said a bloodclot

It was a small shiner. It was kinda like Chevron shaped bruise right at the tip of my cheekbone. The only pain I had, other than when he hit me , was when the bruise was still healing. There is no pain now....nadda, nothing. Just a swell and some hyper pigmentation. (still looks a little bruised)

I bet it goes away in a few weeks. I bet the discoloration is just the buised tissue or whatever still there. This is hard for me to explain, because I'm hardly knowledgable about medecine, etc.

But I know from experience that if you get hit hard enough, you can get a bruise that isn't normal, instead of going away, the discoloration lingers for weeks after the pain is gone.

My friend way palying dead-arm with somone really big. He was drunk and just wouldn't give up, even though he was getting his ass kicked.

His arm turned purplelike a bruise, and hurt for a few weeks. After a while, the extra blood or whatever actually drained to the bottom of his arm, so while it looked like the worst bruise ever, there was no pain or anything.

I may be way off base here, but I'm thinking if you got hit hard enough, and like the skin was pressed really hard into your cheek bone, you may have gotten a smaller version one of these wicked bruises.

I think you basicly have to wait untill your body disolves all these blood vessels or whatever it is.

Note: As mentioned before, I don't really have any clue what I'm talking about. Just kinda BSing.
