Default speedo converter

I'm getting an STi cluster and I'm looking to put in a converter for KPH to MPH. Anyone ever hook up one of these and where is a good place to pick one up?

Follow the link in THIS THREAD to answer your problems.

It's a small chip (smaller than quarter) with 4 lines coming off it that will allow your cluster to display your speed in MPH on the KPH scale. They're in GB, so shipping will take a while and be a bit, but it's worth it.

Great company. And you will want the one on the top, with black heat shrink over it.

It took them a while to reply to mine, though I did order first, so that might have had a thing to do with it.

All it does is take the pulses from the speed sensor (in MPH) and scales it so that the pulses that leave the chip correspond to a KPH speed.

Therefore, when you're doing 40 MPH, your speedo will show 40 KPH. My speedo goes from 0-180(MPH) now with this chip and the JDM V5 cluster.

I have a V7 cluster so I hope that the solder points are the same as the one in the pic in the thread link you gave me. Thanks for the link BTW, very helpful! Of course, now I guess I just have to wait until they contact me. I ordered one last week on Tuesday and fired off a couple more emails throughout the week. I will write again tomorrow. They must not check their emails very much.

The solder points may not be the same, but all you will need to do is find the following;

1) +12v
2) ground
3) speed signal wire

Just clip the speed signal wire, and connect the chip as told from the instructions provided, and you will be done.

Personally, interupting a wire is a bit simpler to visualize and do than interupting the circuitry on the back of the cluster.

Good luck with things, glad I could help out.
