Default Pics of some STi RA Gears vs. WRX gears taken at RalliSpec

I hadn't seen any REALLY good pics of the RA gearset vs. the WRX stock gearset...so while I was in Jersey having RalliSpec do an EJ205 conversion on the car (with an RA gearset in my RS tranny), I took some snapshots...enjoy.

Finally, a good picture of the fabled STi RA gears. The yellow one to the right is the RA gear...to the left is the stock WRX gear. The gear gets its yellow tinge from the cryo process:

Another shot...this time, the RA gear is on the left (the yellowed one) - It's a bit blurry, but you can still see how much more robust the RA gear is than the WRX gear:

Yet another pic...

Here's a comparison of the WRX's speedo gear (on the right, plastic) next to the gear RalliSpec had made to use the RA gearset in a WRX (final drive, 3.90) - I had one similar, but apparently they gave me the last 4.11:

And here's where the speedo gear would fit in: (Dave of RalliSpec holds the pieces)

I would've killed for some good ones before I made the plunge. I did anyway and am quite happy.

FWIW, I'm seeing 75MPh @ ~3500RPM and 80 @ 3800RPM with a 4.11 final drive. The turbo seems to reach full boost at 3500 with the mods, so downshifts are never really required.

yeah i get about 2800 at 60. pretty good milage until i get on it, and then i can just watch my gas gauge drop. what turbo are you running? my vf30 seems to get full boost slightly sooner than that with just the stock untuned txs stg4 map.

Yes, hence my photos of RalliSpec's custom-made Speedo gear.

thanks for the pics. MUCH better looking teeth on those.

can i ask why you didn't opt for an oem 5th ratio? i'm thinking that would be the way to go for me.

Sure, because the OEM RS 5th gear isn't much taller than the STi RA 5th gear. I'm in a different boat than you.

Default non-RA gearset a better opton for some people?

Slightly off-topic, but for those concerned about the 5th gear ratio of the RA gearset, Rallispec also lists an STi gearset (non-RA) with a 5th gear ratio the same as the stock WRX. The rest of the ratios are not as close at the RA, but closer than the WRX stock gears.

The description implies that both the STi and RA gearsets are cryo treated and wider on 1st and 2nd. Has anyone tried these?

I'm getting them shipped to me at the end of this week. Will let ya know. The RA gears are so backordered but these are going to be available. I have an sti 2.5 block so the longer 4th gear doesn't bother me too much with as much torque as this thing puts out.
