Default Custom Mount Defi Control Unit

I wasn't for sure if anyone has successfully/tastefully installed their Defi control unit next to the cup holder.....so I am posting a couple pics of the install in my STi. It took about 5 hours of careful grinding. A ton of material had to be removed back in where the unit sits. A few custom brackets were fabricated. The cup holder is still fully functional. The unit is mounted nice and securely like you would expect. One of my biggest pet peeves is when an item looks out of place in a vehicle or when the installation of an item hinders the function of factory equipment.

Now you just have to swap the color on the gauges....

Yes!....I saw the color swapping this morning. I will be doing that tomorrow at work. I used the same method to change the illumination on my Alpine.....a red marker

broadfield - PLEASE post back and let us know how your color change goes. I have the BF's and am VERY interested in the difficulty rating/efficacy of this swap. I'm still unsure of the final result with a red Sharpie.....I know some folks used a marker to do the HVAC/key ring color change mod and think the color looked sorta "washed out".....I'm hoping the LED's in the BF's are more "receptive" to the marker trick. Best of luck and please post pics on that too if you could.....and very nicely done on the control unit! I'll be doing the same thing soon I think.

I think I might try to change my boost gauge to green backlight sometime this week. I really like the white but it clashes with the rest of the dash.

Since I have an 03 WRX the factory needles are orange. I changed these to red by simply taking a red permanent marker and "painting" the needles. I don't think I have a picture of them but they turned out nicely (looks factory).

Oh and hear is my "custom" controller install. There was much less work to put it in the center console. It is also complete stealth and easily accessible.

Well I tried the red marker on the control unit first since it is much easier to take apart. It came out pink!!! So I just used some mineral spirits and took the color back off of the surface mount LED. Orange marker looked a lot better, but still not close enough for me. I guess I will just leave it white.....which I don't mind at all! I just figured I would make it match if possible. I also won't be happy unless it matches perfectly!!! However, a blue or green color might work fine on these BF's and control unit. The red color doesn't filter good and allows too much of the white to come through causing a pink tone. If you used some red model paint then it would probably be too dim.......but you would get the proper red tone. Oh well, I don't care enough to try the model paint or mess with small pieces of colored film. I will just leave them and swap out for the actual STi BF's when they come out if it actually bugs me that much!

yep in order to get the intense red u need to change the leds. i was investigating this for a while but have kinda given up. companies that may have the right leds will only sell thousands of em at a time. too expensive for the benefit i rekon.
