1/4 not all that great
0-60 fast enough to have fun
165 hp at crank
torque 165 ft-lbs

2.5 RS is no drag racer. It is a great handling car. Toss in a beefier rear swaybar, (the stock WRX bar is nice and cheap too) some good tires, and a good alignment and you're in for some fun. Later, pick up some AGX'es or Koni Sports and maybe some SPT or Prodrive springs.

All I know is if I had my RS when I was 16, I'd have been in a lot of trouble....

I just got a 2.5 RS for a first car. It's really nice, I definetely recommend it but it sure doesn't feel like other cars. The gears are short but you can keep them going at around 2000 RPM and turning is ridiculous (in a good way) but if you get carried away it will cause a nasty accident.

Nunyo is pretty much dead on about the times. I wouldn't consider it a true sportscar (the insurance company will on the other hand) but it beats the hell out of just about every other starting car.

Here is some good info about the car: http://edmunds.com/used/2000/subaru/...nav..6.Subaru*

The first thing you'll probably notice is how quiet the engine is if you've never been in one before. It's dangerously quiet. People won't know you're coming. I was pulling through a drive through window last night and some guy decided to walk out right in front of me, he was probably retarded because I did have my lights on. Anyway, it is that quiet though. Sometimes I can't take it. It does have a nice whine from about 1500-3500 RPM when you're on the gas, right guys? I hope I'm not the only one who has that sound.

Expect to pay a lot more then what the car is worth too. Mine was about $3k over what I had expected it to go for -- although the dealership jacked it up like crazy.

Leather is nice, good for the girls.

PS. I see you're in MA too. I don't highly recommend Patrick Motors (Worcester).

I hope one day after the EJ18 dies I can find myself a nice GC8 RS, not the newer style ones, maybe a 2001, that would be really nice. The RS's are one of my favorite cars.

LeVeL, I'm 16 1/2 (got my car Monday ) and I think I'm paying around $2600 a year. I pretty sure that's with full coverage. It's something you can live with if you really want the car but that's still pretty expensive. Rates can go higher too, a friend of mine has an Eagle Talon Tsi AWD (like a WRX but crappy) and I think she said her yearly rate was $2900! You're basically in the sports car insurance range though.

I got my RS at Partick. They will really try to rip you off. My mom was doing the pricing with the sales rep and offered something like $13,800 which is a more then fair offer. It's almost ironic that my dad and I thought that was a little too high because back came Bob ( ) saying that was too high and offered it for $15,600 or so. Now here's the catch; after his offer it was hell to work him down anymore. There were points where he'd firmly say he couldn't sell it for that price and wouldn't even go and ask the general manager if he could. Now how can he act like that when he calmly went and asked the general manager about my mothers first offer? It's probably confusing, but what happened was that he was fine about our first offer and asked the general manager if he could do the sale. At this point the general manager told him no, unless he could sell it for atleast $15,000. So not only did they get their minimum sale of probably $2k, but they got another $2k on top of that. I really don't recommend them. There's quite a few dealerships that have Subarus, it's just finding that one special RS. I suggest you start looking now as they are pretty rare, http://www.cars.com is where I started looking.

I find the RS to be a fun car that can turn into a beast under the right conditions, ie. mud. Good luck!

Don't get me wrong, I love my RS., but if my insurance was as ridiculous as some of the prices I've seen here I would have gotten an AWD L or something along those lines. The 96 OBS I just picked up has rather impressive power too. I imagine that with the money you'd save in insurance premiums you could sort out an OBS pretty damn well, and have more room to haul your friends too.
