Thumbs up New 1/4 mile times!

I finally got out to the 1320 with the Rallispec intake and 2.25 exhaust installed. Also running a S-AFC and Borla headers with 225/45/16 712's. Here are the numbers.

RT=.7441
60'=2.0302
330'=6.2850
1/8=9.8536
1000'=12.9461
1/4=15.5671
@86.3139

RT=..6551
60'=2.0539
330'=6.3305
1/8=9.9252
1000'=13.0389
1/4=15.6764
@86.2703

My previous best at this track (Capitol Raceway) was a 15.7536 @ 85.3898. Personal best at another track (MIR) was a 15.620 @ 86.89

Im guessing that I would have been faster at the other track, maybe next weekend Ill go there. I was sloppy at the lights and only got to do 2 runs before the skys parted and it dumped on us. I tried shifting a little earlier on the slower run, and didnt get the chance to try it again. They were running the tree really quick. It was get staged and down came the yellows. I barely had enough time to get the RPM's up for the launch.

A friend who had not heard the car with the new toys was not sure it was even me or my car. It sounded awesome off the line (his words), and you crushed both cars you ran against. It was cool cuz the first guy in a GTI was giving me the screw you and your Subaru look in the lanes, I beat him by almost 8/10ths and then I crushed a Z24 Cavalier. No looks from the Chevy guy though. The VW guys jaw dropped when I told him my times and his buddy said "yea dude, he crushed you off the line" LOL. It was a good night.

Cool

Get it down to 15.2 at 93mph and you'll beat the old '93 Taurus SHO that I traded for my Scooby.

I'm wondering how a 15.5 at 86mph beat a GTI and why did the VW guys drop their jaws - what were they all runing?

The VW guy did a 16.4455 @ 84.8194 with a 2.4612 60' time. He beat me by a tenth in RT. Im guessing they dont like Subarus to much and were surprized to be beaten by one. Do you know what a standard time for a GTI VR6 is?

Its a 99. I didnt think there was any other way to buy a RS other than the 5sp.

The cool thing about this is that with the Rallispec Intake and Exhaust (with the Borla headers too) and a AFC, you can drop almost a 1/2 sec off the stock times. I think at the other track (MIR) I could do a 15.3 or 15.4, but Ill have to prove that one.

Hi everyone,

One of my friend owns a Golf GTI VR6 2000 and his best time is 14.4 but I don't know his trap speed. He used a 50-hp NOS kit and he ran a 13.7 time. I have a 1998 RS and last year and ran a very good time with a 50-hp NOS : 14.005 sec. but I blew my engine...
I have been lucky, I had a new engine on the warranty...

By the way, last year's VR6 were running 14.7 but VW changed the angle of the VR6 to 90 this year which explain the 14.4 of the 2000 models.

eric,
I am also from md. i have a my00 2.5 and i ran a 15.5 stock at capitol. i no whave several mods including intake, exhaust, pulley, etc...i later ran a 15.8 best time at 75-80 but that was on a hot muggy day. the 15.5 was run on an extremely cold day. GTI VR6s don't mess around, either. I'd say 14's easily. No contest.

Are you guys sure about the VW GTI VR6 running 14's? Are they stock? I test drove one and they didn't seem any faster than my SVT Contour. And the best magazine time I could find is 15.4 1/4...one website had the car at 16 flat in the 1/4...

Question

GTI in the 14's? is that with slicks or streets? The best I've seen in any magazine is 15.4.

Remember that Eric's car is prepared for SCCA Solo II competition in the STS class, not drag racing.

Have a Nice Day?

YOU GUYS! C'mon! First off NO year of VR6 GTI run's 14's STOCK! NO WAY. Best I had out of my old (sold) 98 GTI VR6 was a 15.2 (with intake/exhaust/removed suitcase muffer).

The new A4 GTI VR6's don't run but 15.4's in the 1/4 mile. I have a Corrado VR6 now and it would be in the low 15 bracket (stock). VW's (at least water cooled) aren't 1/4 monsters by any means.

FURTHERMORE, DO NOT think we VW guys don't appreciate your Sube's!! Go over to www.vwvortex.com and do a search on "impreza" or "subaru". We LOVE your cars! Half of the Vortex is going ape poop over the new turbo Impreza. We drooled over ALL your cars at the Carlise Import Show! For every VR6 big headed idiot, there are at least a dozen VW freaks that love Subaru's. C'mon guys! I've been here for quite sometime, own a VW Corrado, and STILL frequent this place! VW and SUBARU'S have MORE in common (driver, car, enthusiasm, auto-xing, etc) then you guys realize!!

(end rant)

VW guys seem much more temperate than the other "import" populace.

I have never met someone who tunes his VW...but if the Vortex is any proof, I'd probably get along with him (or her).

Besides, if they had offered the 1.8T when I was looking at cars, then maybe I'd be driving that...okay, if I had never seen the Sube, I'd be driving that.

Maybe it was a plain GTI & not the GTI VR6? The regular GTI had the crappy 2.0 I4 with 118 hp but it looked just like the VR6-powered version.

Have a Nice Day?

Yea Yea, I didnt mean to come off like we were ready to throw down or anything. It was just the typical staging lane looks (everybody is a hardass at the strip), while we were trying to wait patiently for the domestic tire burners to get off the track. We compared times and were socialable after the race. He was impressed and both of his friends said they want the new turbo when it gets here. And to be truthful, it was debadged, so it was possible it was a regular 4c but I doubt it. I didnt check out the engine. Anyway, I figured that a 16 was average for a FWD VW VR6 who spent way too much time in the water doing a burnout. And he only lost a few tenths after the 60' mark, so it had to be a 6c, not a 4.

Im in no way trying to ***** on VW or the guy I raced, in fact my wife wants a new Jetta VR6 and we just might get one. Hey, I had to make it atleast somewhat exciting to read. It was good for me because in 8 previous drag races, I won a single race. The first drag race I ever ran, against a civic, from then on nothing but losses. So winning twice in one night (against anything) was a big plus for me.

And like Kelly said, my car is set up for autocross, and the 1/16 in toe out front with -2.5 camber and about a 1/4 in toe out rear are very counter productive for drag racing. Maybe after the AX season is over Ill set everything straight up and let a good drag racer take it for a spin and see what it really is capable of.
