Default Recommended motorcycle for larger frame riders?

My freind is looking into getting into riding. He is 6'2", 250lbs...wears size 15.

He wants to buy a starter bike, but is unsure as to what specific models to look for in the used market. Can anyone recommend some specific models that would fall below $4,000 and would fit a larger frame rider?

Thanks!

I'd say a mid-90s katana but might as well go with a cruiser if he just wants a bike..

an older BMW K series bike might fit the bill. not too exciting, but they fit big people well.

Yamaha FZ1. Sits nice and tall and has 140+ hp to haul his big ass around Unfortunately a used FZ1 will be in the 5-6K range though....

I guess we should know if he's looking for a cruiser or sportbike before we can really help though. You can also ask that question here: www.cycleforums.com .

FZ1 is a good choice probably. I would say just about any BMW, whichever fits his needs best. Most dual sport bikes are good too for big guys.

6'2" 250 isn't really especially huge. He should be fine on just about anything. Nobody is REALLY comfortable on a sportbike, that's not what they're about. I'm 6' and 210 and have been fine on my R6 and TL-S. My roommate is the same size as your friend and he is fine with his 929. If he's after a cruiser, most should work fine. Go around to your local shops and have him sit on bikes.

He should really go into a few shops and actually sit on some bikes and grip the bars. Even if he wants a used one he can get a good idea of style and size of bike to look for.
