Thumbs down scoobynet bbs gone FOR GOOD! I-Club next????

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/

SEEMS it is down... never to return...
can it be so???
well... at least we SHOULD HAVE A UK forum.. CAN U DO THIS Alex... ????

why'd this happen???

because there's too much CRAP going on - posts getting worse and worse... became more of a pain for the moderators/owners than it should have been... so it's been shut down...
permanently my sources tell me...

will the I-Club suffer the same fate???

let's focus on this NOW before we too, lose our bbs as well....

sorry to all the UK guys... I am sure you will feel very welcome here with us....

j.

ScoobyNet Webmaster

To all:

Just to clarify things!
ScoobyNet has not been closed due to the Power Engineering thread.
I have closed it down due to the increased running costs, which comes out of my own pocket, and that the tone of
threads over the last few months have gone down hill.
I am sorry that I have had to take this action but enough is enough.
Thank you for your support.
regards
Phil

Sounds like more of a money problem than a "quality of posts" problem.

Perhaps the Imprezidents would like to comment on this?

I thought Scoobynet was a advertiser supported site? That sucks...I enjoyed lurking around that BBS!

Scoobynet was mildly supported by advertising.

But bandwidth costs in the UK are expensive (slightly cheaper than they used to be).

Scoobynet was never profittable... it never even broke even.

We went through a period before when we had to pull the plug. It was costing nearly 13,000 dollars.. which was "funded" privately - not by members or advertisers.

We managed to obtain some interest. a lot of companies promised to help out... but when it came to pay up time, they didnt.

Yes we have had a few good companies contribute funds for advertising, but not enough to support the BBS.

Time is also another issue, moderating it, supporting it, etc. Other projects and business oppurtunities arise. The BBS has been around for quite some time, and has had its up days and down days, but over the last few months/year.. the quality it brings and provides to people has dropped.

22B has tried to address this by providing a technical resource, but I can guarantee the same thing will eventually happen. I think it is the mentallity of the British population (flame suit on)

I have made one or two friends over the years.. and enemies..

Everything comes to an end.. time to sign off maybe..

I noticed something in the Power Engineering thread that's very true.

Someone said commented about the old perception that one upset customer tells 10 people, and a happy one may only tell a few. Well now it seems that EACH can tell a few thousand people in forums like this one, but still the upset ones speak the loudest and most frequently.

I don't envy being a tuner/vendor.

But then again the iclub isn't going anywhere.

I have remained friends with Phil the Webmaster of Scoobynet, he used to be a lodger!

Phil has kindly donated his archives to 22B.COM so they remain a virtual treasure

Power Engineering and other after market suppliers did very well on waves of positive publicity! When it goes wrong they should then be judged by the quality of their after sales support........not our fault!

Scooby Sport were criticised for their delivery problems. They have expanded both physically by moving premises and now have 500% more staff so they are back in the virtual communiities good books

Scooby Mania "money up front" approach but at least they deliver, has a few followers!

If you are tuning a car you should be delivering a safe product QED.

Question

Jamie, it is a sad day when the content of a BBS can lead to the demise of the BBS

Would JC Sports kill off this BBS?

My BBS is taking over the Scoobynet BBS archives as the information was given freely for the benefit of all and should remain available to all!

As for a UK section here I don't see the point, I considered a USA section on my BBS but decided that this USA BBS was as good as it gets (OK lots of silly stuff but hell )

22b.com is right.
There is NO need for a UK forum here on this site...NONE ....even i, and my jungle boot brain, can see that if the same elements that brought down 1 BBS can bring down another.
Just like i feel there is no reason for a US forum there....On there board we are guests and should act accordingly ...and they are our guests on our board and Should act Accordingly also.

Count your chickens here in the USA. You do not have to worry about suppliers!

We have minimal banner advertising on our site to keep things afloat. No adverts here, so count your lucky stars!

Anders is right. There is no need for UK board here and US board in UK. It will only confuse people. I am sure that most of us visit both boards anyway.

Can the content of the board kill it? Can bad vendors or bad members scare people away from it? Yes on both. That is why I have been trying my hardest to control both vendors and members to keep our little world well organized, but most people don't get it. Maybe one day they will.

On that topic, is there ever going to be a "Online Chat" for the I-Club? I think it would be a good thing.
