Have a Nice Day? Bmw 740

On the way to work this morning an older man in a 740 picked a race with me. I dont think that I have ever been beaten that badly before. Homeboy just took off on me. He had about one jumbo jet length on me by 100 mph. Oh, so ashamed

ehh., don't worry about it. Don't some of those things have V-12's in them? At least V-8's. Nothing a N/A 4-banger can do...

Ah dont feel to bad. The other day I was at a light with a big F350 disel and he beat me by a car length. My excuse: wasn't pay attention to him and by the time i realized he was wanting a race, he was already a good length in front of me.

When talking BMW's, the last two numbers in the name of their car is the stock size engine in liters.

Ex. BMW 328i has a 2.8 litre engine in it.
following the same line a 740 has a 4.0 litre engine.

I thought that was the case with those cars... and is it the 850 with the 12 cyl.? I thought they were bigger for some reason... ehh, just hallucinating again, i think

Honestly, though. If I had spent upwards of $80k on a car I would hope to high heaven that it could beat a little 4-banger $20k car. Of course, I don't know that I'd ever spend that much on a car, but that's another story.

740 has the same V8 as the 540, 282HP.
750 has the V12. get out of its way.

Not the 323i though. It has a 2.5l engine instead of a 2.3l.

Just get yourself a turbo and it'll look like a 740 has a flat and you'll play with a M3 !!

At my school there are tons of rich kids that drive BMWs, Saabs, and Audis. This kid who took his dads BMW 750 (V12 ) to school, one of his dads three BMWs, pulled up to me at a stoplight and wasted me. But its a $90,000 car beating up on a $20000 car. I wonder what $70000 of mods could do to the Impreza .

After $70,000 worth of mods I don't think you're allowed to call it an impreza anymore.

I am pretty sure that some of the 50 series of BMWs (850, 750) had more than 5.0L...something like 5.4 in some cases.

D. Neil Crawford

PS: Look in the auto listings and you can find 750i and 750il for pretty cheap...for '92...sometimes around $20K. But IMAGINE the repair bills on those monster v-12s....

Have a Nice Day?

I thought McLaren F1 was a product of Ford. Did they have some kind of connection with BMW at that time?

$70,000 worth of mods and you would probably have Richard Burns driving it, it would probably be blue too.

The 750il and the 850, have V-12's. They are marked by the "50" designation. The "40" refers to the V-8. Those cars rock.

koli, i don't care what kind of turbo you put on a RS, your not going to touch a 740, or a 750. Maybe with a big bottle of NOS......

My dad has a 540i... & we toasted this guy in a Boxster a few times in a row with 3 people in our car & the AC running. In a straight line, of course.

mclaren is certainly not a product of ford. They used the BMW v12 engine based on the 5.4 used in the 850 and so on...
my buddy is nuts about the Mclaren becuase he drives an 850 and wont shut up about how hes got a mclaren engine (of course its not the same)

When my car was only running ~4psi or so, I saw a Viper with a white racing stripe whip out of Fairfield (my subdivision) and onto HWY 290...I saw he was driving aggressively (not flat out, but still) - I floored it and caught up with him...at ~105MPh, he looked over at me (in my Outback Sport...with 2 passengers) gave me a thumbs up, then walked away from me.

Still not as cool as when I was driving up to Cobb Tuning when I had a late model Vette following me for 3 hours of the boring, long journey to Dallas via I-45. He pulled up beside me at 95, I gave him a thumbs up, he returned it, and he kept on my tail for most of the way.

Always cool getting the wagon acknowledged by big V8/V12 sports cars.

Cool

318i = 3 series with a 1.8 litre 4 cylinder
328i = 3 series with a 2.8 litre 6 cylinder
530i = 5 series with a 3.0 litre V8
540i = 5 series with a 4.0 litre V8
740i = 7 series with a 4.0 litre V8
750i = 7 series with a 5.0 litre V12
850i = 8 series with a 5.0 litre V12

Same as Mercedes badges.

600SEL = 6.0 litre V12
500SEL = 5.0 litre V8
300SEL = 3.0 litre strait 6
C220 = 2.2 litre 4 cylinder
