Thumbs down I really hope Subaru reads these message boards...

and that these latest series of "real" pictures are all a scam. 'Cause the car pictured in these is the most god-awful creation I have ever seen. It has all the redeeming factors of a Gremlin.

I mean seriously...the front looks like a Neon on acid and the rear resembles a Nissan Altima that put on weight. Not two cars I would want to emulate.

If this is what they have in store I am going to keep my GTI and not trade it in on the WRX like I had planned.

Can we get a petition together and demand they reconsider this "creation".

SOA doesn't give a damn what we think. Haven't they made that perfectly clear yet? They try to screw us for using performance parts and non Subaru clutches. They claim to want a performance image but never do anything to improve the image. All they want to do is built more Outbacks and work with GM to build an SUV that should be called the SUX. Look how long we asked for the STI WRX. Are we going to get it? Nope. Have they eased up on the warranty work? Nope. Does SOA ever send out something other then a form letter? Nope. Are they willing to share future product info with their customers? Nope. Are they willing to give the option of a factory forced induction like Toyota and Gm are going to do? Nope even though GM owns part of Subaru. Have you ever seen anybody from the SOA management come on here and give info or anything? Nope. We have better odds of hearing from GM about their future AWD turbo products.

Bryan, even if they did read any of the boards its too late now. It takes between a year and a half and two years to design a new model. So, even if they held their hands up and said they were wrong (which they won't), it would end up being a 2003/4 model.

Its how the STi model will look that interests a lot of people, over here anyway.

Cool

Wait to see the new Impreza in the flehs,
I talked to someone who did and he said it grows on you and the interior is great,
also you have 3-4 spoilers to choose from, and will probably have many customized body kits,
As for SOA, I'm still waiting for a Legacy Sedan with the new H-6.

ok, ENOUGH!!!

This is getting WAY outta hand. I personally LIKE the way the new Impreza looks. It's matured, AOLT. It shed's it's "agressive" look for a more refined look. The styling is very contriversial, yes, but I think they will pull it off. I don't see NEON when I look at the car. Who cares if the friggin headlights are the same general SHAPE. So what? The rest of the facia is different, the Impreza has the signals in the headlight a'la Mercedes Benz E-class. I also don't understand why everyone's bitching about the back of the car. Let me tell you a secret. The current Impreza's rear is UGLY AS HELL!!! The new one is a BIG step up. The fender flares are very nice, and very well done. They give the car a muscular stance, and I LOVE the way the hood is contoured. The way the area around the scoop is set lower is VERY nice.

Oh, and about this "borrowing styling" crap. Ever notice how similar the Focus looks to Pugeot's rally car? How about the S2000? It screams Miata. The MR2, Porsche. Nowadays it's tricky for me to pick out a car from a distance.

Stop being so close minded. Here's what you do. Forget all the other cars you've seen. Forget what the current Impreza looks like. Forget everything. Look at the pictures and think, "New car, ~220hp Turbocharged engine, AWD." Look at the muscular shape the flares give it. Look at the way the hood scoop is set in the hood. Look at the still agressive front bumper. It's a nice car, and I applaud Subaru for going twords a more adult look.

Don't forget that subaru is going to be focusing their market towards the homosexual community instead of making a cool looking powerful car for the US. Great. Just frickin' great.

Fortunately, the new Impreza is very attracted to other new Imprezas...

Unfortunately, no one else is...

Don't worry, we'll find out what the deal is soon enough.

Well, wasn't that special.

This may come as a big shock to you but the aggressive styling was one of the things that attracted us to the Impreza. Losing this wonderful angry edge is a mistake.

And if you somehow see Mercedes when you look at the front of the car maybe you should "see" an optometrist .

I expect Ford to rip off other manufacturers as they have no creativity. Subaru's designs, while usually fairly bland, have always been distinctive. This new shape is just ugly.

I mean, Cmon, all I can get out of my wife is "HHMMMM. I will not be seen in that."

Here's the crux of the problem, and the reason why everyone is pissed.

Subaru has had AWESOME cars for YEARS in Japan, which any performance enthusiast would drool over. The various STI versions were absolute kick-ass cars, which smacked down anything that got in their way. And did the US (the biggest freakin car market in the world) get EVEN ONE of these incredible cars? Well you know the answer.

So when we finally seem to be getting even a watered-down version, it ends up looking like this.

That's what the uproar is all about. And now because it's goofy looking, the real enthusiast that Subaru was attempting to market to is thinking twice, so Subaru will maybe not get the response they were looking for, so maybe they'll give up completely.

The car will sell, no doubt about that, but probably not to as many people as might have been hoped. I sure won't buy one, unless they have a severely tweaked performance version that we haven't seen yet. I don't want happy sappy roundy bubbly. I want an STI V5 with a big wing, scoops, angles and some balls.

Exclamation

hmm... MB E Class:

"New" Impreza:

Notice the TURN SIGNAL in the headlight? How about the similar oval shape? Ooohhh, pretty...

Destinctive? Please, my ass. You ever look at their japanese site? The Pleo and Impreza Casablanca don't exactly look origional. The Impreza currently has a strikingly similar look to a particular Dodge. Just because they tossed on some vents, a scoop, and some large fogs, it's the baddest thing since the muscle cars of the past? Granted, I love the look, but the shaping is nothing new.

Maybe you should be more open minded.

Oh, take a better look at the parts in your engine, you may be surprised at the parts Subaru borrowed.

eek, kinda sounds like a flame. , it's not, all in good, err, debate.

ummmm errr huh?
xMetal - umm Subaru is not the only car company that left out its performance line in the US. EVERY car company has at one point entered and left licking its wounds or never entered at all. Subaru is not quick to forget their lil SVX mistake you know.
Wolve80 - Gotta admit tho it just not as nice as any of the previous spy pics and previous models.
Bryan - LMAO. At least then you know she won't be touching your car.

Nick - "ummm you don't like it honey? That's okay, here is some money, hope the bus looks nicer."

hehe, nah. The turn signal set in the light is what strays it away.

Besides, thinking it LOOKS like a Neon makes it uglier than it is.

Does that mean my GTI looks like a Mercedes??? NO. Just having the turn signal in the light doesn't save this creation from the beating it has had with the ugly stick.

I have seen the other pictures and while it doesn't look as bad as first thought its still lost alot of the edge the current car has.

Maybe they will make the Neon in AWD?

And I haven't taken anything here as a flame

Well if they do read this message board lets hope they hear our requests for the RSK B4 or the turbo Forester. Oh and don't redesign them before you send them to us. Leave them the way they are. Unless you want to send the STI turbo Forester or Blitzen RSK. Hello SOA I'll pay you the $30K for the Blitzen.

Cool

Hang on a 'mo, the current Impreza is desperately dull to look at. Your RS is attractive because of the ricey add ons that Subaru put on it to make it look more appealing. Hopefully, you all bought one because of the cars capabilities, because if you bought the car for it's looks, you could have done a lot better!

You constantly bemoan the lack of a US turbo version, and when you finally get one, you decry its looks! It seems to me that Impreza owners in the US are no different to Impreza onwers over here, you just don't like the fact that is has changed. It wouldn't matter what it looked like, you just won't like it!

I've driven standard turbos and WRXs, and beleive me, they are stonkingly fast and fun to drive. You can't see what they look like when you are sat in them anyway, and most of the time you not driving them, you can't see them. When you eventually get the turbo, looks will seem secondary, and if they don't, then you are looking in the wrong sector of the car market.

Geezer

P.S. I promise to return to non Subaru posting as soon as possible, sorry

Whoa, easy there Mikey. Don't get an aneurysm or something. You are way uptight, man.

I think the styling influence on the lights has a lot more to do with the new Bug than any Mercedes (except maybe the Smart). Looks like a cross between the front ends of a New Beetle and one of the new Lexus' with the oval-ish headlights. I think the detail people aren't getting from the picture is that the HEADLIGHTS ARE SLANTED BACKWARDS. They are not vertical, they slant back like an old 911 or one of the new Lexus models. The nose protrudes between them. Think Aston Martin DB7, not Neon. Certainly it can be construed as "cute" styling by those looking for an argument, but imagine a front end kit for this car... Morette style headlights, etc. The side of the car looks quite like an Audi A4, the back admittedly is a bit plain, but a step up from the old rear end. If the current car had this rear end on it, many people would like it more. Sure it looks kind of like a Corrola sedan, but so what? The wing will make it all fit.

I will lay money on the fact that someone will come up with a front end kit for this car that will look amazing. It's just a better platform for cosmetic modification. It has better lines.

/ok done

I dunno. There are just so many things to cover up. The front end is an abomination we all know that. But Do you really like the boxy forester flares? And when you're done doing all four quarter panels, the whole front end and hood the Lexus rear end is going to get on your nerves. At what point do you just give up and get something else? The car is just so derivative it's amazing! Lexus rear end, Forester flares, Neon front end... Personally, I'll probably get the 2001 and hope they develop their own identity in the next couple of years. Frankly, I can see nothing in that vehicles design that says Subaru. I'm not even all that pissed that they made it less aggressive. I actually like the new Legacy (with the exception of losing the scoop). I think they kept what was intrinsicly Subaru and refined it. The Impreza is just a rolling advertisment for 3 other vehicles. BTW: If they plan on charging 27000.00 it should look more like a refined european model (BMW) not like a reject from Detroit.

SOA-- The New Impreza looks great! Don't pay attention to some of the riceboys here that want all these late eighties/early nineties z24ish non-functional scoops, vents, wings and airfoils. I apreciate the more modern styling. The front end is even starting to grow on me. Like others have noted, very Porschesque. All this car needs is a just mild deck wing (think Blitzen). If this car has the goods underneith, and is reasonably priced you'll have no problems selling them.

Waht do you want from people who think the Skyline and EVO are the epitome of style? Some of you must add Mork(from Ork) style suspenders to an Armani suit, because the Armani suit is too understated (maybe a feathered leopard skin pimp hat like Mugabe).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I would feel ridiculous driving around in the bat mobile, but some of you guys obviously don't, and that is all you care about (think turbo, think six speed, think multi-link rear susp and 100lbs less weight).

I personally can't stand the Japanese "Godzilla" aesthetic. I think the best looking Japanese cars were copies of other cars. The 240z worked because it looked like a scaled down Jaguar XKE, the original Miata looked like an amalgamtion of a Lotus Elan with a little TR-7 added for good measure.

The Skyline looks like a riced out Mercedes, I expect the EVO to transform into some kind of Robot. You guys watched too many of those sorry Japanese cartoons growing up. Your tastes are skewed, you would have been better served watching Bugs Bunny than Battle of the Planets.

The gaybashing is just ridiculous. If the new car is designed for gays, was the current Impreza designed for drug dealing, gangsta wannabes?

If you ask me it looks more like a HYUNDAI than any thing else. Although I dislike almost everything about Hyundai, the one thing I do like is the price. If the new impreza cost a mere $10,000 to $14,000 I'll sure as hell buy one no matter what it looks like.
