Default wrx parts for 6MT swap

Hey guys,

Ok so looking at past threads and people who have done swaps, some list needing a tranny crossmember, while others dont.

so what im wondering is what can i use from a wrx? I have a legacy auto, will i even need to switch tranny crossmembers?

right now i am under the impression i can use the following:
wrx tranny crossmember(if i need to replace mine)
wrx clutch slave and master cylinders
wrx starter

is that correct? those who have done it in their wrx please let me know if that is right.

thanks for the help.

Ben

thank you sir, thats good news because i just ordered a tranny crossmember and starter and they could have been from a wrx or sti, kingpin didnt know.

how about this question, do you think its probable that subaru used the same rear axle shafts for the earlier ver 4/5 R and RA's? seeing as how i dont recall hearing about a new axle design except for the new GD models, i could very well be wrong though.

if that is the case then that means i(and others) could have an R180 without swapping the rear end. im trying to find more info on this right now, just wondering what others thought.

thanks

Ben

r160 axles are probably the same gc vs. gd. Gc8's did have r180 axles which are the same as the gd r180 axles. I'm not sure what you mean exactly when you say you could have an r180 without swapping the rear end, but if you want an r180 you will have to swap the rear diff, axles, hubs. There is no way around it. The r180 is physically bigger and the r160 axles do not fit it. Good luck with the swap.

ok, so you know for certain that the older ver4/5 R180 diffs took different axles too?

i was HOPING SOJ would be lazy and not do a redesign on the axle yet for those cars.

i was saying that i was hoping they would basically use an R160 rear axle on the older R180's due to the chance maybe they didnt feel it necessary to have bigger axles at the time, so if that was the case then i could just use my own axles without changing anything else.

thanks for the help.

LoL if that was the case....all the WRX guys would be looking for them. The 180 is cheap and a good diff. It's the brakes that are expensive.

exactly, plus i am not even sure that rear end would work in my car so i would have more problems there.

oh well, gues it will be a wrx rear diff or maybe a used aftermarket diff from japan.

thanks guys
