Look at the rims. If those are the production rims, the red car must be a 98 incarnation of the car(the start of the project).

They are just wheels. They keep the car off the ground. It is possible there could be a couple designs available with the new car.

Personally I wouldn't mind having '98 wheels on there. They are one of my all time favorite alloy wheel designs.

Wow, the front end looks like a Japanese Pinto. I hope that is not what the car really looks like.

Why would they assume that they are headed to the US. The US isn't the ony LHD country in the world. Besides if the US is supposed to get theirs next eyar then why ship them now? How long is this boat ride? If they really wanted to give us informed info they would open the cars damn door and look for the DOT approval info. That or they could have just reversed the regular photo and claimed it to be LHD.

They would ship them for testing and evaluation. They also need to train people before the cars are out there at the dealerships. As the US release gets closer I am sure there will be all kinds of orientation events.

Some notes:

I got a look at a bigger version of the image and the wheels are a shiny B4 pattern.

I am glad to see the pacer-esque shape of the wagon continued.

There seems to be some black accent between the leading edge of the front wheel well and the headlight.

There is that picture of the interior, but it is too fuzzy and dark to make anything out.

kastle, the pics of the car can be compared to $hit. The more you look at it and the closer you get to it the more it stinks.

I'm just waiting for somebody to wreck theirs so I can have a donor car. 2.2L conversion on the EJ20 here I come!

LACKEY

The side profile is still that bad.

From any angle this is the ugliest "sports car" that I have EVER seen. And I do mean ever.

Cool,

http://www.magx.ne.jp/scoop/impreza0007/index.html

Notice:

Left Hand Drive
No wing at all
Wide cutout in the back for the licence plate (Euro)

Those tail lights are pretty big too. Maybe the Japanese were listening to everyone's stories about getting rear-ended.

What I thought may be plastic trim looks like it was just a lighting thing.

The seats look like they have separate headrests, so they are not STi seats. They are under plastic so you can't tell if they are leather.

Those brakes fill up the 17 inch wheels pretty well, wooooey.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I really like the new design. All it needs is a lower suspension. The rims even look nice. I bet as soon as you see Richard Burns winning Rallys in that thing you will change your minds. And now that it has wider fenders the rallycar will look more like the regular impreza.

Thumbs down

i don't know about the rest of you, but that side profile pick has no resemblance to any Impreza i have ever seen.

Either it's real and it sucks, or it's a fake done up by Subaru to mess with us.

It looks too big, to square(ford cossie) to be an Impreza. Hell, the dam hood looks a different color blue than the rest of the car.

Ok, ok, I admit it doesn't look as bad as the other spy photos made it look; the side profile is not bad, the front is too ovaly and plain. it needs a wing! I can't see the sharp angled V5/6 wing on that thing.

Notice the clearer shot of the bumper vents on the silver Impreza behind the first blue on in the front 1/4 view shot on that page.

BTW: What's with the blacked out window side invoice sticker?

That thing should have been put out of its misery at birth..

Poor Barsteward child of a Neon..

Ah well!!! Just have to get me name in line for a new M3.

Richard

edit oh yeah and it gets worse from the Mag-X site

The US Impreza will have the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter boxer four. A turbo 2.0 will be a distinct possibility for Subaru fans across the two Big Ponds.

Like I said in the other thread, I would definately drive around in that. When I first saw the RS I didn't like it either. Imagine racing (not that I do that ) a Mustang, and beating it in that ugly thing!

Gimmie gimmie.

On another note, I think it looks more grown up, and looks better then those other econo-boxes y'all been mentioning, i.e. Euro-Corolla, Neon...

[flamesuit]
It could almost pass as an entry level Benz or something...

And by the looks of the amber reflector, those do look like they're coming to the States. Correct me if I'm wrong but those amber reflectors are only mandatory in N.A. right? Does anyone know if they're law anywhere else?

Also, just wait till we get to see an STi version... it will look good.

C'mon, it doesn't look that bad does it. To me, it still kicks ass.

I think these pics are fake. The hood is to light to be a reflection. The reflections themselves aren't clear at all. The side view is in a shadow, yet the front lights are very bright. Overall they don't look like real pics, not very good integration, etc.

If this is the actual car though, I wouldn't really be disapointed. The current Impreza has a sort of cult like following. If the new impreza has a look that everyone loves it will be a very popular car. Dealers would be selling for over MSRP initially, and the car would loose its exclusiveness. I like the idea of having a car that is not really mainstream.

Those thingies on the lights and quarter panels are red to me and I think they are protectors for shipping. Remember that we are supposed to get those cars i Denver in August for the dealers.

I could get to like it, but the side profile is awfully tall.
