Question im new and am thinking about buying a 01 impreza RS

right now i have a 94 probe GT. and i want to buy a new impreza and use my car as a trade in and i was just wondering what are the common problums of imprezas and if any of you know there 1-4 mile times and stuff i know they are almost dead even horse power and tq wise with a probe stock for stock with a probe being 165 hp and 165 tq and imprezas with 164 hp and 166 tq i think. last time i took my car to the track i got a 15.2 1-4 mile time. i have raced a impreza befor he said he just had exhost and a comp on his car and he got like 2 cars ahead right off the line but at the end i was like 1 car ahead or so any info you guys can provide would be great.

Yeah, that's about right.

Hello and welcome to the board...

I'm usually the "bad guy" who discourages people from drag racing and "slamming" their Imprezas, so don't think I'm singling you out or anything..

(flame suit ON)

Would you hit a nail with a screwdriver instead of a hammer? IMHO if you are interested in 1/4 mile times then you should get a car that is good at that sort of thing. Most Mustangs, Camaros, etc. will easily kill an Impreza in a straight line ... why try to fight an uphill battle? When you launch an AWD car with less than 300 ft*lb of torque, the wheels are not going to slip. Something has to give. Typically it's a clutch, 2nd gear, whatever. True, these problems can be solved, it's just a question of cost. Since you are at the point where you have a choice of where to start, I wouldn't recommend the Impreza as far as cost and headaches for that sort of thing...

On the other hand, if turning ape-**** quick on any surface short of Rubicon interests you, then there is no factory car more rally-like than the Impreza right now in the U.S.

So look at the kind of driving that you want to do, and choose accordingly...

upside to impreza:
most fun car to drive

downside:
cant stop spending money on it to make it better

just go test drive one, or maybe we could meet up and you could drive mine to feel what one unstock impreza feels like... or come to the autocross on Oct 1st...

i feel as though what is lacking in interior is made up for in the rest of the vehicle. it just depends on whats imprtant to you, to me its how it handles. PM me if you wanna meet up, or just come to a meet!

Cool

yea man i think it would be cool to attend a impreza meet. im in bapoc probe owners club. yea i want to see what its like to drive an impreza i havn't had time to hit up a sub dealer to try one out but i was planing on it sunday if its open cuz i work all this week. i work at a ford dealership. and the reason i want an impreza is the fact that they are awd i can have alot more fun with it then i can with my probe. i can do some light off roading and handling is more importent to me then stight line speed. i just wanted to see how fast they are and what kind of cars they are equal to stight line wise and all. let me know when the next meet is. ill check it out. if i knew how to add a pic i would put one up of my car if you want to see it give me your e mail address and ill send you a pic.
