I wouldn't quite jump, Alex... There are a lot of changes done to make the car better all-around.

According to that brochure thing posted last week, changes made that I could see helping:

Redesigned intake ports
Redesigned pistons
Intercooler position altered (not sure if applicable to WRC car tho)
Front lower control arms aluminum on WRX's (is this new? not sure...)
Front track width has been increased
Rear roll center lifted 33mm (tho they claim same as WRC car, but maybe the WRC car will have it lifted even more)
Windshield wiper system improved (hey, it helps..)
Can't forget the Halogen headlights now...
Body/frame rigidity highly improved

I think all those can contribute to a better handling car, and possibly help on the course. Of course, a more insane driver would help as well. Gotta get someone that'll outdrive McRae.

Subesti,
You're an American right? Why are you pissed off at someone (who is not American) leaving a team (again, which is not American) to join an American manufacturers team???? I thought the US was the most patriotic country in the world?

Beats me!

In my view the Impreza will have a better chance next year as essentially they are using a more developed car.
Whoa Dude.. Just a cotton pickin minute there..

Errrm and the Focus and the Pug have been part of the WRC circus for how long???

Sorry.... But next year if Mr R Burns retains his seat with Prodrive then he's going to be eating a lot of Pug and Focus dust/ice/gravel

Next year is Gronholm's year

Lets see, Richard Burns is in contention to win the World Championship, the front end of his car looses grip and he dings it up a bit, eventually leading him to retire from this perticular rally, and all of a sudden the Impreza "cannot keep up" with the other cars in the WRC?! The car has a chance of winning the world title for pete's sake! And if memory serves me correct and judging by the standings, Subaru hasn't dominated anything in the last few years.

Pug' has a good car with good experienced driver's. There would be something wrong if they weren't winning a few here and there. Competition will only make Prodrive and STi work harder at producing a winning car. Subaru is hardly washed up.

Well, Richard I just didn't want to think about the Focus or the 206. Getting beaten by Mitsubishi I can stand as a.) my mate works there and b.) at least you can go out and buy a 4wd turbo'd EVO.

The Pug car is basically an illegal car, but they got an agreement from powers that be to run a silly bumper to bring it over the min length of the rally car.

Personal view is that Peugeot will win it, never mind eh.

I remember about a year ago over at Checkpoint SS2 that Subaru once mentioned that with teh departure of 555 their main sponsor, Subaru will only compete in WR for a few more years and it if ain't succesful or profiting, the'll leave.....

The only reason someone posted this topic is because of the recent asphalt events. Burns has driven the balls off a car that doesn't work well on pavement. The final 2 events are on dirt...right in the Impreza's wheelhouse. If Burns gets his car to the finish he can still win this thing.
As for next year? Burns will win. Solberg will perform beyond what people expect.
Am I a crazed Subaru fan? Yes. Should you be (including the less than supportive moderator)??? You bet.
