Question 2002 US WRX Turbo on a 2001 2.5RS?

All you smart guys out there. Does anyone think that the turbo off the yet to be released US spec WRX will install on the engine of a 2001 2.5RS? The new body hasn't grown on me yet and I just got my 2.5RS after 3 and half years in a BMW M3.

I wouldn't believe it to be any differant than putting a turbo off a current WRX engine since the turbo impreza coming here is suposed to use the 2.0 of the current car. I am under the understanding that there is alot of fabrication needed to use the 2.0 turbo on our car, along with a differant cross member.

Thumbs up

I'd just check out JC Sports www.jcsports.net
They have well priced, good quality kits, with a large range of options. I think that would be asier (and cheaper) than retrofitting a 2.0 setup. Hope this helps!

The engine is very different from the old Jap spec WRX 2.0. Everything would not bolt up. We'll see how it goes when people actually try a engine swap in about 4 years

I bet it would work, but you will likely need to change the front cross member, as mentioned to accomodate the headers. But, I bet there are other options as well.
Tim Prudence runs a turbo off of a 94 legacy, so he would be a good person to drop a pm and ask some questions. He has told me a bit about his set-up, and it sounds good to me. I believe he is currently looking at getting rid of some of his sensors/electronics to install one of Shiv's TECII kits to manage it instead, but otherwise his set-up works well.

-Head over to the forced induction tech forum. I just noticed a thread on upgrading IHI turbos, and Tim and others are trying to get more boost out of their turbos w/rebuilds

I too went from 2 years of a BMW M3 to a Subaru 2.5 RS... They both are very good handling cars. My subaru, however, handles better now that I have my Tein coilovers and 18" wheels. The subaru can't touch the M3 as far as luxury and raw speed.
