You gotta see the in-car footage of Derek Bell in his Porsche at the '86 24 hours of LeMans. I know it's on VHS for sure. Accelarting QUICKLY to 256 MPH going down the Mulsanne straight (before they put the chicanes in),then braking HARD for a 90 degree right hander, big old hairy powerslide comig out. Like watching the Millenium Falcon going in and out of hyperspace! Everyhting to the periphery is just a bunch of multi-colored streaks, then all of a sudden it's in focus - trees. cafes, guardrails, etc, etc. Freakin' unreal I tell ya! Later and take it easy! Arik

BTW, where you gonna get a mansion by the sea for a million? 5 maybe, but 1? In Malibu you're looking at least 10 million for something that would be considered a big house, let alone a mansion. I know, I know, you were being figurative. I'm just kiddin ya!

OMG! That is cookin for an Imp!!! Must have had a whole ot of real estate in front of him to do that! You gotta have alot of motor to fight all that drag, no doubt. Because of the U.S. speedo I never can tell how fast I am going after 120. I've been told once that I was doing 135, when I was along side of my friend's '94 Z28 one time. But who know's for sure?

Tyrmeltr - That was in a GT (turbo) Impreza. I'm sure they have different gearing then our puny RS's.

A turbo Impreza will get there surprisingly quickly, and just stay there all day (minus fuel stops of course) if you have a nice Autobahn or unrestricted road of course

8 complex, do not underestimate grasshopper, I have a '96 WRX transmission, not an RS one. I think the issue here is output not gearing - I had revs left at 135 enough to get to 157 I'd imagine. In fact, I'm not sure if the ratios are radically different in all of the Impreza gearboxes. With the exception of the close ratio, short geared WRX RA boxes (4.44 I think).

I believe the biggest difference between my gear ratios and an RS, is that I have a taller first gear (better for downshifting). I could be wrong but not terribly so. But nonetheless 157 is freakin fast. That car is pumping big power period. That beast would have given my old '86 Carrera a run for the money, that's for sure! Later all. Arik

You have to go to the left and click on where it says "Other." Then click "Top 10." It has the top 10 "why are you going this fast" pics and the top one is the McLaren. If you click on the pic, it's link to a quicktime for the car ripping it up somewhere. Anyone know where this was done?

Whoa! Am I still on the Subaru Impreza owner's club message board? I have a bit of a hard time believing that the Impreza 2.5RS (with anything short of nitrous and/or lotsa boost) can make it to 157MPH. That's just a bit too fast for our drag-ridden RS's in any practical road situation. Perhaps with nitrous you could manage to get to 150MPH quickly enough that you wouldn't need an airport runway/tarmac to do so, but that's really freakin' fast for our little 4-bangers...

Of course, I would love to have somebody prove me wrong!

Does anyone remember some guy over in the UK taping himself in his F50 Ferrari doing like....340kms/h down some local highway?? He sold the tapes on the net and got busted doing it. I have only ever seen this video once, on Inside Edition or some stupid similar show. I thought it was the craziest video I have ever seen. He was passing cars like they were standing still. If anyone knows of the link, or a site, I'd appreciate it...

Hucker ,i believe the Ferrari video was from japan.
And for the impreza pic and the top ten, both cars come from the netherlands, and I know both owners. The pic you see in the topic was taken in Germany. The dutch club visits the Nurnburgring frquently and those speeds we drive a lot there on the autobahn, some times with 10-15 impreza's in a row. There's no speedlimit on the autobahn.
Tyrmelter ,you can forget you can hold on to an impreza, only turbo porsches are faster.Maybe your topspeed is a bit higher ,but by the time you have reached that we are vanished.
bye Chris
