Default Evaporated Milk?

I'm cooking and the recipe calls for 1 cup of milk. All we have is evaporated milk, and I'm not even sure what the hell that is.

What is it? Can I use it? How?

it is no where near as good. but in some places in the world that is all you can get.
there should be mixing instructions on the box

as long as the milk is providing a back ground taste and not the dominant flavor, you should be good.

drink it, and have happy 3rd world "they are chasing after me with machetties" residual memories.

Evaporated stuff is horrible...It tastes mostly of water because......that's what it is.

There is a big difference between wvaporated and powdered milk.

A fun thing to do with powedered milk is to pour it all over someone that is passed out, if necessary, spray a little water on it. The milk will seep into the person's pores and will make them stink like ****.

FTW

Evaporated milk is just milk that has been concentrated by evaporating some of the water (hence the name). The can should tell you how much water to add to restore it to normal water content.

Powdered milk has had all the water removed (again hence the name).
