Lightbulb 1/4 mile with and without Nitrous

Went to the track last night to finally test out the Subby with and without Nitrous Here are the results.

Without With
60ft: 2.151 2.099
330ft: 6.483 6.266
660ft: 10.140 9.679
660 mph: 67.591 72.435
1/4mile: 16.031 15.120
mph: 83.286 90.994

That was with a 50hp shot but a couple things slowed down the Nitrous time

1) Due to lack of a bottle heater, the bottle Pressure was only at about 600psi at the beginning of the run. Optium is 900psi.

2) Again, due to the low bottle pressure, I was not getting enough nitrous after 1/8 mile and therefore runningthe car very rich (rich= slow)

3) I took it a little easier with the shifts so I don't break the tranny.

With a heater, I'd say mid 14's are a given.

Finally,

Someone that has numbers. Well done on the 50 shot.

Yeah, I agree that 600psi is too low. My friend really noticed a difference with the bottle heater. He noticed a difference when he ran at 900psi and again at 1100psi.

Are you using any fuel management devices?

Did you check your spark plugs after the runs?

i was wondering if you would tell us what mods you have on the car??
Whn I went to the track I was bone stock and pulling 2.05 60 foot times, yet my 1/4 mile time was 16.05... you seem to have a better top end than me and i was hoping you could tell me what you had done to improve it, or if you had a different year than '00

-thanks

It's a MY00. No suspension mods yet (Coilovers are sitting on my floor), and the only performance mods on the car are a Stromung dual tip and intermediate pipe. I have a S-AFC but it is set at 0% everywhere.

You can really feel the Nitrous kick in! First gear winds out wayyy to quick and second gear winds out pretty quick also. It is definetly a lot quicker than stock.

I can probably get better 60ft. times but I tend to ride the clutch a little.

Oh, as far as the top end is concerned, I'm not sure if I am doing anything different than you. I shift out of first and second at 6,250rpm's and shift into 4th at around 6,000. What does everyone else do?

are you powershifting at all?? I dunno if its diff with Nos...but yeah...I know for sure that power shifting with a turbo compared to not powershifting when having turbo can make close to a whole second difference in a quartermile time...with n/a however...it might make you .1 seconds faster..but with NOS...is it more like turbo?? would you get much better times when powershifting??

Cool

hehe.. I"m faster without NOS.. 15.08@88... intake only. but my car is a little different... but that's at sea level. as soon as the pulley comes in.. 14.9 is a given as well as ******* little boy bret found 50 extra pounds to knock out
*******
should be 2500 even at next track showing.. hopefully it will be a little cooler.. hoping for cold air(about 50 would be nice) also stayed with a 5.0 and type R through my 2nd gear .. the got roasted . So pulley and sway bar coming.. rallispec and lightweight bumpers are next. maybe us florida people can meet@the track sometime. speedkills.. you've seen the baby do 15.4 or 15.3 right?? come out to the track next weekend.

Question

Spunky,
I have a 2001 RS with JC intake and a brospeed muffler. When I went to Sears Point Raceway I could only get a 16.0 @ 84.something. What kind of intake do you have and how did you you pull a low fifteen
with it by itself? I have been told that the cars are not fully broken in until around 8000 miles and I had about 3000 when I raced it.
Thanks,
Scootr

He's at sea level... it's the elevation difference. If you do a search there are correction numbers publshed here somewhere...

Imprezinator,

Did you NOS pressure gauge come with a kit or did you buy it separately? I need a gauge as well as a bottle warmer. The type of gauge that I am looking to get is the one you hook up between the bottle and the NOS hose (Without any additional wiring). I was too cheap to get a bottle warmer but I really know how important it is.

I don't even know what my pressure is. This sucks!

What made the biggest difference for me is when I engaged the NOS. I used to engaged the NOS right after 3000rpm in first gear. My trap speed went up by 5-6mph (86mph - 91/92mph). My best time was a 15.1 vs 15.8's without the NOS. From reading the NOS manual, engaging after 3000rpm is the way you are supposed to run it. Now for the egg-head method. Instead of engaging the NOS at 3000rpm like Im supposed to, the switch is already engaged right off the line. Soon as I floor the car, the NOS is flowing. This took me from my 15.1 to a best of 13.85 (13.9 - 14.1 usually). I have been doing this for about 3 months now. I don't recommend this but just sharing the results of it. L8Rs

With nitrous? The numbers don't sound right. I ran a 15.5 @87 mph with a 1.9 60ft. completely stock. No forced induction whatsoever.

The gauge I have is the one you are talking about. It connects to the bottle directly. I need to get a bottle warmer! I'm going to the track tonight with hopefully better results because I should have more bottle pressure. I'll post the results latter tonight.

Question

Sea level doesn't make that much of a difference... Something is not right with spunkys numbers 15.08 stock? There must be something that he's done that he's not telling us about. I'm at sea level(coastal Oregon), and I raced at Woodburn Dragstrip.
stock times mod times
60' 2.180 2.051
1/8th 10.110 9.817
mph 69.25 69.39
1/4 15.879 15.510
mph 84.63 86.45

My mods include:
Magnaflow polshed stnless perfmance muffler
Functional Primitive extreme hood scoop
removed intake piping to the filter box and installed elbow redirecting fresh cold air from the hood scoop to the air box
Denso Iridium spark plugs (stock plugs were champions, uugh)
I actually had to lower the air pressure in my tires due to wheel spin.

Spunky is running only with a Larry's cold-air intake, some custom cardboard body aero stuff (and lots of tape) that goes on the car only for drag strip, and about 350lbs of the car sitting in the garage.

He is planning to do an UD pulley and see if the car will break into the 14's with UD pulley and intake as above!

You can IM him as "Pulley831" on AOL IM...

I went again last night.

I had a little more bottle pressure but not near where it should be. Also, BAD clutch slippage problems in first and second!

60' 2.030
330' 6.054
1/8 9.370
mph 73.23
1000' 12.254
1/4 14.700
mph 92.40

There you go, I'f I would have had an ACT clutch It would have been probably 3/10 beter

Eric,

Curt and I were talking about this. We don't think you really need the nitrous for the launch. Can you engage it mid-way through 2nd gear? You really need the extra power at the top end. I don't think it will be any help in first. That would also avoid the slipage.

Just a thought,

-Bud
