Um, are you talking about the track-day video of the Legacy?

Anyway, the owner of that Legacy is on this board.

The video I am talking about is the one where he is following a Porsche at a track and goes into a turn to quick and looses it and rolls the car. Is that the one?

The Roll Video is of a Legacy (Patrick Olsen) at Lime Rock park. Not the same as the car above.

The Car below? Dunno who's it is. But it looks to be at a track, not an auto-x.

Why is the RS so easy to roll? I've put mine on two wheels at least twice now. It gets kind of weird when you jerk the wheel.

Probably because of the AWD. It gives it its super human powers, hehe, J/K. Seriously though, AWD vehicles can take turns harder than RWD or FWD without breaking loose its traction. That gets it into a situation where there is much more rolling force than there would be on a non AWD vehicle. The Impreza is actually supposed to have a lower center of gravity than most cars because of the flat boxer engine though. So my guess is the AWD gets some people into situation that are beyond the limits of the car.

I agree with Eby in the fact that it is mostly driver error. People thinking the car can do more than it realy can, or just going to far. But it is pretty easy to roll a car when going as fast as Richard was.

I don't know what you guys are doing, but I have never put my car up on two wheels. Course, the horrifying amount of body leans usually makes me back off well back of where this is a possibility. Technic, everyone, that car will be in my posession this weekend. I have already rented a Penske 15' truck and trailer, and will be leaving SD late Friday afternoon to Fremont to get the car.

I have already made arrangements with Chris Normile, the owner, who is also not an I club member. The reason, you ask? Why, because Chris is only asking $3500 for the RS, and the drivetrain is in perfect shape. So a drivetrain swap is in the cards for my poor little Impreza L FWD.

"Car was pampered and loved up until rolling it at Button Willow."

This is not the legacy from the video, that is why I said "another".

From the responses, I am guessing no one here knows what happened.

Well the reason why the Legacy rolled was because it went off the track sideways into the relatively soft dirt at high speeds. Almost any car would roll in that situation. The tires dig into the dirt and bite, thus stopping the car a lot faster than it wants to. Leaving it nothing to do but roll. I think all the cases you will hear about people rolling their subaru's will involve them going off the road. It would be almost impossible to actually roll it on the tarmac alone.

Is it time for a track lesson? LOL I won't be doing the teaching. But ask anybody that has been on a full race track, and they'll tell you that flipped cars happen a lot!

For more detailed pictures, checkout my page and look at the buttonwillow trip.
http://www.importcars.net/subaru/

Essentially, Chris carried too much momentum into a 40mph 150 degree downhill turn, slid the car off the track, then mashed the brakes. This caused the car to pivot (oversteer) and as he came back up onto the track, he broke the bead on the passenger front tire which caused the car to flip over, smashing the roof once, and settling onto its side.

Its easy to flip any car when you break the bead off your tires in the dirt.

I'm not real impressed with the strength of that A pillar. It's leanig over there where my head usually is! That scares me a little. If it happens at an autocross I'll be wearing a helmet, but if it happens on the road I'll be covered under insurance. hhmmmmm. Not altogether appealing is it?

Insurance will cover any accidents on an autocross. Its not considered racing, its driver training.
