Holy cow, I didnt realize MAF was coming back! I knew we were getting the JDM style intake manifolds finally, but this looks completely different... Look at the 3" airflow all the way through the intake!

currently i think we have 3 or 4 models on the 2004 series of teh ej25
we have 1. plastic 2. SULEV using a 3 peice intake manifold with MAF 3. aluminum intake with egr 4. and i dont recall if the 04 has it(i know 03 did) but a standard aluminum without egr to my understanding they are different ways to try to make te motor more reliable(the s-ulev was just to be a more emissions friendly motor) either way if it was up to me id just take the NA2.5L blocks that subaru has and burn all of them ![]() its time for somthing new and reliable... either close the decks, make the walls thicker or just stop making the NA version and go back to the 2.2 and get more power out of that |

I take it it's got individual coils for each spark plug? I don't see a coil pack on the engine.
The intake plumbing looks much more cleaner and direct than before. LaterZ! Darren!! |

Is it electronic throttle control? Fuel lines are differnt too. Alot has changed. Is the block pretty much the same though?

That looks very similar to the earlier model Foresters from the late 90's. Quite surprised to see the MAF come back on a non-turbo engine. I guess it's less expensive to keep all Subaru engines MAF-based for both turbo and non-turbo?
The other surprising item noticed is that the intake manifold isn't plastic yet. If they are cost-cutting, wouldn't that be the next natural step to take? |

I wouldn't call it a phase III motor... that has to do with it's internal design only.
The intake looks like it'd be smoother for turbo'ing, for sure... it's also compatible with our current heads, if you look at where the bolt pattern starts on it. |

I missed the whole plastic manifold discussion - is it better or worse than the aluminum?

I like the intake manifold. It's not plastic.

Looks pretty cool to me.
At first glance, the plug wire re-routing threw me for a loop!! Looks much different from my car.I assume the STi Imprezas will go to this style for '05 too? -S2- |
