Default Cobb stage 2... not hitting boost target level...

It's just maxing out at 14.7psi and tapers off toward the redline. I know my car should be hitting around 15-15.5psi in 4th gear. Anyone knows of reason why? should I be checking for any specific areas?

Have you gone to the Cobb site, I understand there's a +/- .5 diff possible depending upon your setup.

Do you have the reflash where you sent your ECU to Cobb?
If you do I suggest getting the accessport. I had the same problem with my reflash, after I got the accessport and reflsahed the ECU with it I thought I had a new car. I am now getting 16.3 psi with an occasional peak to 17.0
I noticed that the reflash revision number is 1.08 for stage 2 and 1.19 for the accessport stage 2 map.

How long has it been since your ECU was flashed?... the common refrain to the "not hitting boost targets" posts is "let the new flash programming 'learn' a few days, should go up"...

I do not have my AP yet, but having read so many posts just like this, I figure it's worth a repeat b/c there's bound to be more than just a thread of truth in it if so many folks have seen this issue, then see it resolve itself after a learning-period.

I hope to know more first hand by end of this week or early next (provided my AP ships, they're very close to my 'pre-order' day now).

Good luck!,

-James

I wouldnt worry about it...

Quote:
The peak boost on the Stage 1 AccessECU should be 14.7 PSI +/- .5 PSI. Peak boost on Stage 2 should check in at 15.8 PSI +/- .5PSI. Boost being a little higher or lower than the target can depend on a few factors, especially with the Stage 2. The efficiency of the exhaust seems to be a major factor. Some exhaust configurations are a quite a bit less efficient than others.

what are your mods? cobb told me if you don't have a bellmouth downpipe or divorced wastegate you might get lower boost levels. i have the hks downpipe and i'm hitting .1 mpa max. that is around 14.5-14.7 psi. i'm gonna try to swap it with the helix this weekend to see if i can bump boost up a bit.

I called Cobb yesterday regarding this. Sometimes I can only hit 14.5 and other times I can hit 15.3. I run an Oakos DP, Helix UP and Samco IC Hoses w/ the stage II 1.19 flash. Still running stock 3rd cat and rear muffler section. According to Cobb, I might be able to get some more boost by removing the 2 remaining stock pieces in the exhaust, I already assumed this. He also suggested a better DP that flows more, divorced or bellmouth seems to be the recommended. Anyone want to buy a DP?

I did some testing yesterday. I monitored my drive to school with the AccessPort, this was at 5:30pm CST. The temp outside was about 75-80 and I was only hitting 14.3. I then tested on the ride home which was 10:30pm, considerably cooler and was able to hit 15.3. This tells me that if I had a better DP, I would be getting over 16psi on those cool nights like last night.

I use an HKS dp and I get 16psi, so I'm not sure if it has to do with the dp.

I'm glad you brought that up. During lunch I though of something else to check.

I installed the mechanical 02 fix before getting my AccessPort. I never removed it. It's possible this is the cause for low boost levels for some users. It's not getting the expected 02 readings for the increased flow.

I'm going to test this theory when I get home in a few hours, I'll post my results.

The 16psi you're registering, what gauge is that on? Factory?

I'm getting all my readings from the ECU via the AccessPort. I have the stock gauge but trust the AP figures more.

I have all the usual bolt-ons turboback exhaust, uppipe, Samco intercooler hoses, Samco inlet, Perrin pulley, Denso IK22 spark plugs and I think that's it. Also I'm using an Apex boost gauge. I don't hit 16 psi in 1st gear and get close in 2nd.

i'm assuming most are like me. hitting 15.5-16 (stock gauge) fairly soon after instal (and restrictor removed from stage 1). i gotta believe we're the silent majority. my set up: gutted up, stromung dwg catless dp, stock 3rd cat and midpipe, prodrive axelback.....makes me wonder what slightly bigger middle section would do, but i'm very satisfied with how my "daily driver" is pulling right now. it actually feels like the front wheels are comming off the ground when i punch it!....getting groceries

Got the uppipe and STi tranny mount installed today... a lot of stuff had to come off for the install. It's finally hitting around 15.5psi in 5th gear.

Car sounds meaner with improved low end torque.

I returned the mechanical 02 fix back to normal and gutted the 3rd cat, still not getting consistant 15+ psi in 4th. The only bottle neck left in my system is the stock axle back.

I'm guessing the stock axle back is extremely restrictive and is holding back some boost. I'm going to run another test by removing the axle back section to see if that's indeed the problem. I'll keep everyone posted.

No leaks that I can find. My boost gauge and Accessport would reflect a leak with inconsistant/wavy boost and/or boost drop off. Any leaks in the exhaust system are pretty obvious. Up-pipe leaks scream like a banshie. All other parts of the exhaust will make a pretty distintive sound if leaking, I'm familiar with the sound and have not heard it.

WRXVII - you mentioned that you're hitting 15.5 in 5th. You should be hitting that in 4th. What max boost are you hitting in 4th?

When I flashed mine to stg2 I was hitting 16psi in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th right out of the box. The next day I saw less boost in 2nd and 3rd but still hit 16 in 4th. Then the day after that I was back to 16 psi in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th again. It has been that way ever since. I guess the ecu was just sorting things out. I have an uppie, Bosal DP, Borla cat-back, with the stock 3rd cat in place. BTW, does anyone else think that 4th gear pulls like a mofo?? I think I notice the biggest gain in 4th.. Good luck with the problem..
