Default One man's junk....

is my freakin' treasure, damn it! I remember drooling over the Sun SparcStation 20's and SGI Indigo2's back in college, and today for some reason that is beyond my comprehension I searched for SGI and Sun workstations. I just won a bid for a $9.99 Sparc20 workstation and a $19.50 bid for a teal (earlier gen) SGI Indigo 2.

Am I weird or does anybody else like to collect classic "exotic" hardware? I remember when either of those were unthinkable prices.... and I just paid more for shipping for each of them than I did for the actual computer. Ahh, even if they don't work, I have nice paperweights

I wasn't going to be the first one to open this thread. I figured that it was probably alright if Kai opened it and didn't post another thread warning the rest of us that there was a pic of a guy's junk in here.

Solaris or Irix or NetBSD or Linux..... whatever will run.

It's not so much what's gonna run on them so much as the fact that when I was in college, I swore I was gonna own one of those one day. And now... I do :P

You could always make your own animated movies on them!

Felching Nemo, perhaps?

I never got to use an Ultra. I dropped out right about the time they got the Ultra 10's in I just remember how snappy and responsive the Sparc20's were (compared to the IPCs and IPXs that were abundant).... and how much I drooled over the SGI Indigos in the science labs. Those things were badass back in the day

I've got a dead Sony Trinitron 21" SGI monitor. It MAY still work with an SGI... but I doubt it. I think it got zapped by the same storm that took out my little Iris Indigo I do still have two working adapters to hook up a normal PC monitor to them, thankfully.

I picked up a SparcStation 5, 10 and an Indigo 2 from work. I haven't done anything with them yet. Maybe some day I will
