Lightbulb gremlins in my headlights!!

So, yesterday afternoon I leave the office, planning what I'll cook for dinner in my head... I get to the car, and hit the unlock button, and ... nothing. The red light on the fob blinks, but nothing else happens, even standing 1 foot from the car. I get angry at the remote and smack it around a bit, to no avail. I know I'm going to have to open the car with the key, and the alarm will go off, till I can do the secret trick, but it will be embarassing, so I try and look casual standing by the car till no one else is around. Unlock the car, prepared to jump in and stop the alarm, and ..!?!?! nothing!

now I'm really perplexed, I sit down, there are no lights, the open door ding isn't dinging, and when I tried to start it, it didn't pretend like it was even going to consider turning over. well then! that's one dead battery.

I pop the hood and poke around the battery. Holy corrosion! the positive terminal is a mess of that crumbly stuff that battery acid leaves in its wake, and the hold-down bar is looking bad as well. However... all the connections to the terminals look clean and tight.

I call someone who comes to jump me, and we jump-start the car just fine. No dome lights are on, all the doors were shut all the way, so I'm all .... till we walk to the front of the car, and I see that my Morettes high beams are on, as well as the Hella FF1000's. what the?! They're not supposed to be on... I glance inside the car, and see that the light selector is set to "off" I turn it to low beams, and it goes to only low beams, set to high beams and the highs and lows are on, just like they're supposed to. But when I turn it off, the high beams (not the lows) stay on! Well, that would certainly drain a battery.

Through a convuloted sequence of pushing buttons, switching the selector, flashing the highs and possibly an invocation or two, I managed to get the lights to turn off, but clearly there's some sort of a new loop. How can I figure out what went wrong?

morettes are wired like so

Cliff Notes: Morettes flip out, high beams won't turn off even when headlight stalk is set to "off" drain battery over day. What do I do?!

Sounds like you have a ground wire thats exposed. Check and recheck your wiring.

lol, i had the same problem with my morettes. I put HID's in and after a while i traced it back to a bad relay. maybe you should test those buggers.

cheers

uhg, I have about 4 miles of wiring in the engine bay, adding more Hellas this weekend as well.. that will be fun. How do you "test" a relay?

I was also sort of thinking that a diode, somewhere, could be the solution, but I wouldn't even know where to start on that.
