Question How much would you pay to get Supercharged?

As most of you guys know I'm one of the lucky bums running around with a s/c setup. I've been thinking about designing a kit based of my current setup, something more refined and easier to install.

But I have serious hesitation about doing this for obvious reasons. So at this point I'm only doing research into this. NOTHING MORE!

With the disclammer done lets get onto the research area.

How much would you pay for the following setups and which option would you like to see happen most?

base included:
------------------------
Eaton m62 s/c
fuel pump
engine management system including 550cc injectors
Custom intake manifold

Option 1
TMIC
6-7psi pulley

Option 2
FMIC
10-12 psi Pulley

Option 3
FMIC
10-12psi pulley
Hi flow exhaust system.

Thanks,
MadMax

Option 1 will run on stock internals. As for how much, put down how much you would be willing to pay.

thanks,

Option 4
FMIC (larger)
Eaton M90 SC

custom intake manifold
~630cc injectors
$4500

Options:
Custom Hi flow SC based header
Custom Hi flow SC based cat-section (or eliminator)
Custom Hi flow SC based exhaust system
Upgrade TMIC to FMIC
Upgrade M62 to M90
Upgrade XXpsi pulley to XXpsi pulley
Upgrade to ~630cc injectors
Upgrade to 720cc injectors
Options 3 & 4 recommended to upgrade engine internals. Possibly offer slightly thicker head gaskets for 3 & 4, though 4 will need more upgrades to be reliable down the line.

What kind of Torque numbers are we looking at here? Has your set up been dyno'd??

I'm wanting to build up my ej25 so it will have a good amount of torque. (Mainly so I can take it to my local 1/8th mile drag strip every once in a while.)

It would be AWESOME if the Kenne Bell unit they use for the 1.8l Miata engine would work. Alot of people who have engines with an eaton have switched to a Kenne Bell twin screw set up. Right now its the big thing to do for all the 03 Cobra guys.

I am very interested in all of this. Please keep us posted as to your developments.

Well my setup put down 184hp / 204 lbs of torque at the wheels. Thats with the stock header and cats installed. I'm in the process of getting a custom s/c header down and high flow exhaust system. Plus re-tuning done. I'm guessing I will be at 210 hp / 230 lbs of torque at the wheels when im done.

Also I prob wouldn't look at any other s/c system out there since I know my setup works. I wouldn't want to introduce a new variable like a new s/c.

I think I know where I will go with this. I'm going to do the R&D work and put together a plan and one working proto type, which will most likely be an update done on my current setup. Once that is all done I will sell the design work to who ever wants to fab the kit. There is just too much work involved with sourcing parts and pricing and then doing the selling. I rather focus my time on the project and let someone else try selling it.

But I appreciate everyones input on this. I'll probably begin the design work late fall when I stop driving the car. So maybe by next year this time I'll have the plans done.

Thanks,
MadMax

ps second prototype is for jynx's wagon

I like the idea of air to water intercooling as it does not require a hood scoop or hacking of the front end. As we all know there are relatively few RS's out there. I have to believe that there is a fairly large market for an SC that will work on the 2.2l and 1.8l Legacies and Impreza out there. There are many more of these cars and they are cheap to buy and blow up.
$4k would be a good price point including the I/C.
550 cc injectors would be too much for the smaller displacement cars, perhaps the 370cc Silvia injectors?
I know that I would be very pleased with 190-200 crank HP that would be good to go for 50k miles and able to run in traffic, heat, cold and long constant highway trips. It would make a killer autox set up.
The hood replacement adds about $1k to the project cost so then you start competing with a WRX engine swap that delivers more reliable power. I think you have to keep the total installation, kit and setup cost to less than $5k or people will A) not afford it or B) get a WRX swap or C) just buy a used WRX to begin with.
I have been running these scenarios for a long time now while waiting for an SC kit. There is a market for at least 100 kits if they are the right price and RELIABLE. They have to be more reliable than a turbo or people will not bite.
Cheers.
