funny.

Default Exhaust reccomendations.

Yes, I am aware this is asked quite frequently, and has probably been asked on this page of the NA forum. But, I want to get personalized answers.

I am looking for a catback around $400-500. I have an 01 RS with only an intake, performance wise.

The major requirements for this exhaust is,

* As everyone always says when looking for an exhaust, I need Very deep, and very rumbly, I can't have this thing sound like a fart can. I want the sound of a mod'd WRX, the deep pissed off boxer sound. I don't care if it's loud, as long as it grumbles.

* Has to be around $500 for the whole catback, no scooby sport for me.

So, reccomend one to me based on my requirements. Thanks fellers.

600 shipped might be do-able, as long as "shipped" means "shipped to Alaska too"

I got magnaflow muffler + a 3inch tip + an intermediate pipe all installed on the car for around $300 at a local muffler shop. Sounds great, not farty and saves you the money of $100+ on a brand name or logo like stromung. The tip i have is pretty much liek stock only a little bigger..you wouldn't know its aftermarket unless you asked me.

Thanks for the suggestions, my rs25.com thread is telling me to go Stromung SS Dual-Tip. This one seems to be going the same way.

In the old SCC exhuast test the Stromung dual tip matched the best hp gains and kept all the low end torque. If were buying an exhaust now its what I would buy if I didn't do custom.

Whenever I get around to it I am going to be getting a prodive muffler with a stromung midpipe for roughly 500-550. I am already looking forward to it

Yes and no, there have been numerous posts about this, you will have to rotate the flange and move or cut one of the exhaust hangars. It wont make the car much louder or give any power.

I have to second the custom catback option. You can save 200-300 by doing that, which can go towards headers or a high-flow cat which are the real sources of exhaust sound and power, and with a custom muffler you can have it look however you want it to look, pic a tip, size, 1 or 2 tips, etc.

Ahh, I thought that whole twisting the flange part was for the muffler + mid-pipe, not just for the muffler.

What exactly is the process of getting a custom exhaust? Buy an exhaust tip, tell the exhaust shop to make a catback out of it?

custom exhaust is ghetto, least buy a real axleback i say

i have a custom midpie (questions go to silent rob95) and i have it made so the end flange would meet up perfectly with the wrx muffler

So, buying a 76mm dual tip from stromung -> http://www.stromung.com/subaru/price1.htm would get me an axleback? and then i'd have to make or buy a custom mid pipe, and then i'd have a full catback, correct?

Get the Brullen, there's one for sale in the Private Classified section. 2.5inch I believe, dual tip looks real nice on RS's. Build quality is top notch, overbuilt you might say. Good luck, Keith

I actually want to get a 2.5" so I don't have to buy another exhaust when I go RS-T.

Contact Aerosim Research. I ordered my Stromung single tip catback from them. Easy to deal with, and fast shipping. They're over in California, so shipping shouldn't be too much of a hassle for you. Stromung makes 2.5" catbacks as well. Ask "Kym" from Aerosim Research how much one will run you for, and tell her "Ray from Jersey" sent you. And you should be on your way to a new catback.

piker28 - FYI, the iON/Brullen cat-backs come in 2.25", 2.5" for N/A purposes, and we also offer a 3" for the RS-T''s
