Default Help! Need a good dealer in Bay Area

So, I've just had the three worst encounters in my life with my local dealer's service department. Let's just say, without complaining too much, they lost my keys twice, lost the car once, and of the six things that needed fixing, they only managed to lube the cluch pedal ok (after two visits!). Basically a nightmare.

Can anyone recommend a Subaru dealer in the San Francisco Bay Area with a reliable service department? I'm still under warranty so it pretty much has to be a dealer.

ps. Please omit Ron Price Motors from your suggestions. Thanks.

I have had no problems with Albany Subaru (Albany, few miles north of Berkeley) since 1995. They've listened to my concerns and worked on some warranty-covered items.

According to the Drive magazine, Carlsen Subaru (Redwood City) is one of the top ranked dealer in California, so they should be good too. Been there once, good service, no complaints.

The plus with Albany Subaru is they have extended service hours (up to midnight on weekdays, and open on Saturdays).

It might be a distance for you, but Santa Cruz Subaru probably has THE best reputation out of any Bay Area Subaru dealership. Their staff is great and do get to know their customers on an individual basis.

Another good option is Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City. They've changed management over the last year or so and it's probably better than before.

Although I live closer Carlsen, I will make the trip across Highway 17 down to Santa Cruz for all my major maintenance and warranty items.

The other nice thing about Santa Cruz is that they will loan out Subaru rentals for about $20 a day if your vehicle is being worked on. Much better than getting stuck with some POS Enterprise rental!

Check out the Bay Area forum and do a search on recommended dealer -- you'll see these two pop up quite often.

Avoid Stevens Creek Subaru like the plauge.

I'm in the East Bay. I agree with the comments above. That's what I've heard. I was actually going to buy my FXT at Santa Cruz but it was just too far. I may have the "big" service done there through. Subaru has "Gold" rated service outfits of dealers listed at their site. The bad dealers aren't even on their list, let alone Gold Listed.

I do my own work (oil change, etc.) on my new cars. I'll bring my FXT in for anything more than that, while it's under warranty, and for 30k/60k service. I'll also have a dealer do a thorough inspection when it is near going out of warranty.

Cheers,

Bob

Bought mine at Santa Cruz. The were by far the easiest people to deal with. Nice folks, too.

...also the Santa Cruz dealership offers a 3 year/60k maintenance package for free and 10% off parts.

Make it a day trip and spend some time at the boardwalk.

PS: Santa Cruz was the "other" dealer I mentioned elsewhere here; that didn't have a white and was "two hours away". I think, when it's time for the "big" 60k service I'm going to take a leisurly route out there, leave the car in the morning, and spend the day with the kids at the boardwalk! My FXT is worth the drive, to me.

I seem to remember Santa Cruz even does free oil changes when you buy the car from them! Another way to intice you to that boardwalk!

Speaking of boardwalks, you aren't really in CUBA, are you Looney ? They have some nice "beach" down there too I've been told ....

Thanks alot for the help.

I think I'll give Carlson a try first. Santa Cruz sounds really great, but the hour-long drive down the coast seems a bit much. Nice, but too far.

A word to the wise: You can buy a car from Ron Price Motors, you can even buy parts from Ron Price Motors, just don't ever get it serviced there!
