Default whistling sound at high speeds

Has anyone ever noticed this to happen at around 100 or perhaps 110 MPh? I have been trying to figure out where this howling sound is coming from, but It's hard to tell.
I know I am not the only person that has experienced it, and it seems like it is just the wind breaking over a part of the car and then trying to come back together abruptly.

I even have a video here where a guy is on a track in Germany called "The Ring," and his does it on the straights.

link:

http://www.8200rpm.com/Video_Section...imprezawrx.wmv

Check that out sometime (71MB, but fast dl rate)

And yes, I did some searches and found nothing that really explained my howling whistle sound.

It is usually because of the mirrors or the rubber molding on the window.

Default so you've heard it too!

Yes, the whistling sound seems to be pretty common - you should hear it at 144mph! If I know I am going to have a run at a high speed for a while - on a race track of course - I will fold the mirrors in. It works for a while, but as soon as I hit 120mph my racks present a howling that are another problem...

Seeing that hitting speeds near the far spectrum of the spedo are a rarity, I'd say just accept it. See is as a warning that you're going too fast...

I was wondering what that noise was... Under the right wind conditions you can hear it at around 80mph too.

I notice you have a wagon. My roof rack whistles a bit at speed.

My wagon makes the noise between 110 and 125. Some foam weatherstripping to fill that space where the mirror folds will take care of it.

I wonder if people in nearby cars or people outside can hear the sound too? I wish that video link worked.

Some people say mirrors some say it's the frameless windows also.

Regaurdless of what it is, it goes away if you slightly crack the window, not even enough to open it just to break the seal between the weather strip and the window.

I'm leaning towards beleiveing it's where at speed the area around the window seals become lower pressure than inside the car. Then the inside air escapes between frameless windows to the lower pressure outside creating the whistle.

Cracking the window litterally a few millimeters is just enough the air can slip through without making the whistle.

Edit- i do love making it whistle when it's someones first ride in my car

I either don't getr this whistling or the wind noise through my frameless windows won't let me here it. My car is prior salvage and my driver door doesn't sit perfect. I get the wind noise at about 110+.

It doesn't work because it's three years old. Please look at the original thread date.
