Post Sun Roof Mods?

Couple of questions...

First: Is it possible to re-wire the sunroof so that you don't have to press the forward button twice to get it to close... What is the deal with it stopping half-way???

Second: Would it be possible to replace the sunroof with a moonroof? I like being able to see out the top with the roof closed...

i remember a while back that someone else was asking this same question. I'm also curious to the outcome of this. Oh, and yeah...that is rather annoying that you have to hit the forward button twice. I just thought mine was messed up maybe. My only concern about replacing the sunroof with a moonroof is that I wonder if the motor that we have for our cars is strong enough to control a heavier roof. Anyone out there have this done? Doesn't one of the other model Subarus come with a moonroof?

I was toying with the idea of placing another swith on the left of the steering wheel to control the roof. It's annoying having the controls on the roof.

one of our member in Vancouver got a moon roof installed, I have no idea it's switched from sun roof to moon roof, or it's a total aftermarket. It looks pretty good.

Actually it'd be nice to be able to just push the button once and be able to let it go to open and close automatically. Similar to the auto-down function on the drivers side window. It also would be nice to have that for the passenger side window.
Wonder if it's possible to find another auto drivers window switch and use in the passenger window switch place?...Hhhmmm...

Why don't they have voice control over the moonroof?

I'd like to be able to tell it, "Scooby, open sunroof to 40% please" and have it say, "I'm sorry Dave, but I cannot do that".

Do you think the new AutoPC windows ce systems will be able to do that?

Why use glass? If you are going to fabricate your own moon room, might as well use some of these nifty new plastics. Polycarbonate (aka Lexan) is cool stuff, and IMHO pretty easy to use.

I really hate having the sunroof controls on the roof, especially since you have to keep your finger on it, release for a bit when the roof stops, & press it again. It always looks like I'm giving someone the finger when I'm just trying to close the roof, & I'd like not to get shot for it.

The thing I miss most about my BMW was the auto up & down for all 4 windows!

Lexan pits and scratches a lot more easily than glass.

Cool

While we're at it, why does the ignition have to be on for those things to work? How hard would it be to go direct to the battery for those? I can't tell you how many times I've shut off the car, only to have to turn the key all the way back on the close up.

Thumbs up

Why not just rewire the controls to mount in one of the many useless switch cut-outs where the fog light controls are. For the auto up/down feature try parts express they have tons of switches and things that may be able to get the job done or try an aftermarket alarm installer they can usually wire up the auto down feature in windows so it is probable that they could do the sunroof then you could just put a blank plate over the controls on the roof and you are set.

Mike:

Besides safety / security, the reason all the power accessories die after the ignition is off is because they could put a (small) constant load on the battery, which could make the battery quite dead if you didn't drive it for ... say, a week or so. Or less if it's really, really cold.

But you could rewire the accessories from 12v switched to 12v constant if you really had an itch for it.

Oh yeah, definetly... as long as you don't mind it rebooting before it carries out your commands.

My leagacy has a moonroof . Unfortunatly a truck dropped a rock off the back which bounced and put a crack in the top layer. I think it would be very heavy because it's double paned glass.
