Default SteeringQuickner ... any experience with this device ?

Saw this in the new Car and Driver "Boost" magazine ... mounted on a Dodge SRT-4 Rally Car.

Will this work in an '03 WRX Wgn ... legal for AX'ing in SM ?

Available here: http://www.howeracing.com/Steering/I...-Quickener.htm

Anyone know anything about this device ...

1.5:1... that means instead of 3.1 (right?) turns from lock-to-lock, it'll take 2 turns. If our stock racks were 15:1, then they'd become around 10:1. Thats a little quick.

They are neat devices and yes it's been done in a Subaru before. No it is not legal for SM class in autocross. You cannot modify any part of the steering column on the car, which of course needs to be modified because that quickener isn't made to work with the way ours is splined, along with the fact you need to shorten the column to make it fit.

Don't some of the STi RA's come with quicker steering racks? And I thought that updating/backdating components like that between different option levels of the same cars was allowed.

*edit*

nevermind... I just remembered, all the RA's came RHD. I don't have a copy of the official SCCA rules in front of me but I think you are allowed to play around with different steering rack gears. Any good machine shop should be able to make a fast rack and pinion set.

Regardless update backdate only works for cars sold in the US.

The problem with this wasn't the ability to do it, it was the liability that the shop felt they could take on should any of the racks they sold failed and caused accidents, etc.

I need one of those for my SVX. It feels like 35:1.
