Question Stromung Single Tip Muffler

Does anyone have the Stromung Single tip muffler? I was looking into buying one, it's less expensive than the JC Sports muffler and
SCC reported the Stromung gave a bigger hp increase, anyway, my question is if you have it how do you like it and was it hard to install?
Thanks
Steve "Scooby" Saunders

You have to buy the muffler and the pipe seperate? How much was it all together? And is there any welding involved

Steven,

I have the dual tip stainless Stromung and I love it. The quality is first rate and it is completely bolt on. I had mine on in less than 30 minutes including new midpipe! If your car is fairly new the bolts should break pretty easily. If not soak them for a couple of hours with some liquid wrench or some type of rust penetrator. Use a good socket and a big breaker bar and they will come off pretty easy after the soaking. I actually backed my car upon onto some ramps to raise the rear end and it made the job really easy. Just make sure you chock all the wheels before crawling under the car on the ramps. There are only two bolts and three rubber hangers holding the muffler in place so it is an easy replacement. Also, make sure you clean all the old gasket material off of the midpipe flange so you don't have any leaks there.

I've heard of some surface rust problems on the non stainless Strommung and that's why I went with the stainless. I got mine from Mike Shields at SPD Tuning and he gave me a good deal on the midpipe for buying the muffler. First rate service and shipping from SPD too!

Good luck,

Punk

Just out of curiosity, I made my own graphs of the air intake and exhaust tests Shiv performed on Project: Impreza in SCC.

Although the JC Sports exhaust had the best peak horsepower, at low rpm's the exhaust actually reduced horsepower. Also, the power curve was very steep - the JC Sports exhaust reached its apex long before either Stromung (single- or dual-tipped) reached their peaks.

Overall, both Stromung exhausts had a flatter power curve, meaning more power throughout the entire rev-band. In fact, whereas the JC Sports exhaust really faded toward the higher end of the rev-band, the two Stromung exhausts kept pulling.

FYI - The dual-tipped Stromung exhaust did product slightly better power throughout the entire rev-band than did the single-tipped version. It looks to me that either Stromung exhaust is an excellent buy, and I'd avoid the JC Sports exhaust.

I have the Stainless Single tip on my 2000 RS, I love it, sounds really good at WOT, it is definately louder than stock. I didn't get the midpipe. No welding is involved just unbolt the stock one and bolt the stromung up. I don't have any pictures but I will try and take some this weekend and post them.

I spoke with Scott at Stromung on Monday, and he says the single tip flows better than the dual tip.

Since SCC got better power with a dual tip, maybe the single tip flows too well for an NA motor, less backpressure?

For a turbo which doesn't want backpressure, he recommends the new single tip 2.5" which will be released in a few weeks.
