Default So we went dumpster diving at Staples and...

We found 2 steel safes, one that weighs 54 lbs and one that weighs 36. They're both demo units but both of the keys were in them so they work. Problem is the big one has a key lock as well as a dial lock and the dial mechinism has been tampered with so that it's broken.

But the smaller one has an electronic key pad entry as well as a key lock, and doesn't look like it's been tampered with. The thing is when we reprogram the code and use it it does nothing. It doesn't look like it's hooked up to the locking mechinism at all. Any idea what it's for? It doesn't keep the safe locked when you use the key and it doesn't open the safe without the key.

PS. the small safe is a Sentry V260

I don't think so. It's a promo so most likely new model came in and they had to make room so they threw these away. It might be busted it might not, but it looks like all the components are there. We've found tons of crap that they've thrown away including a mint condition $300 executive leather chair, it was a promo, I sat in it a month before.

What I need is someone who's had experience with a keypad entry steel safe.

Put a human head in it. Lock it. "Return it". Get store credit. Buy another safe with the cash you get. Repeat. When they unlock the first one say, "Yeah I know, why do you think I brought it back in the frist place. Friggin psychos and their lust for severing heads."

Ok, I opened it up and removed part of the electronic keypad, there's supposed to be an extra locking mechinism for a skeleton key (so you can get in even if it's armed with the keypad).

Oh well, they lock with just the regular keys, now if only I had a use for 2 steel safes.

Turn it on its back and use it to store old motor oil.

Or, build a fire in it and make s'mores.

Like pure elemental sodium. Fill the safe halfway with water, throw in a large chunk of sodium in a ziploc baggie with a tiny hole poked in one corner, and close the door and lock it.

Several moments later the party starts. Make sure you have plenty of cover.

Tell them the receipt is in the safe and you can't get the safe open.

Dumpster diving.

We used to DD when when we'd go skateboarding in industrial parks all the time.

The two best ones were the p0rn0 dumpster and the nerf ball dumpster. We'd find messed up p0rn all the time. In the nerf ball dumpster we found a huge bag of reject soccer balls that we were kicking everywhere that night.
