Default What should I do?

Hi, everybody. I have a 95 subaru impreza L with a non-turbo 1.8L engine and I would like to know what are the possible upgrades for performance you can do in this car. I just bought this car like 3 months ago and I was wondering if you subaru pro's can give me a hand. Also, I'm expecting some problems at the time I try to start my car. It makes like a click sound w/out starting the car. I wonder if this problem is the starter or if it is the alternator or the fuel pump.

Thank you,
renzoburneo.

realistically kostamojen is right any way to get real power out of it would be to swap out the motor the 1.8 would never make alot, heck the 2.5 doesnt even make that much with mods

your starting problem sounds like checking out your starter would be a good place to start. hmm that was too many "starts" for one sentance.

head over to the "conversions" forum and read the stickied threads for information on the engine swap. but plan on reading for a while. there is probably more info over there than you would want to tackle in one day.

The "click" is probably the solenoid trying to engage the starter teeth with the flywheel. No cranking means you don't have the juice to crank. Either a bad battery, a bad alternator, or both (most likely).

Before you do anything, check the connections going to the battery. Mine were all corroded and nasty. I just put in a new battery and thought my alternator was dead. Clean them up so they make good contact and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions for my car. I'm thinking about doing a swap in my car, but which engine would you recomend ne? a ej20t? or a ej25?

Regarding my starting problem... I just bought a new battery for my car like 4 months ago. My starter is perfectly working, since I already tried hooking it directly to the battery and it started quickly. My alternator? I don't know... How can I make sure that it's my alternator the one w/ the problem? Also, I think that it can probably be the ignition switch... can anyone tell me how to check if the problem is the ignition switch?

Almost forgot... today when I went to start my car, the clicking noise wasn't the only problem. The car wouldn't start, so I tried starting the car again but this time pressing the gas pedal at the same time. It took me like three times to do it until the car started... does anyone have a clue of what could have happened? does it have something to do w/ my ignition wires and/or ignition coil pack... I have recently changed my spark plugs like 4 months ago. I will appreciate any suggestion.

if your going the swap way i would say ej20t just because i think turbo power is kinda cool but ej25 is much cheaper and nice low end

If you are having starter problems, try replacing the crank and cam sensors. I had starting problems with my 1.8, and it was a combo of those sensors and earlier on the starter (which I had replaced, but still had starting issues... since I replaced the sensors, no problems at all)

If you haven't done the GROUND MOD, do it before replacing any parts. The cheap homade mod will be enough to let you see if that is the problem!
