Simple enough....who sells this thing the cheapest? I am under the impression it is in the $1300 dollar range, correct? Also, is there some sort of base map that comes with it to get you running?

yeah just gave them a call, 1350 for the ECU and 250 for the harness, and a USB port is another 100, a lot of money. They have a dealer up in Connecticut or Maryland that can do it, that is the closiest place around here for a professional install. Damn the man. Why are cars so expensive?

PNP harness actually runs around $500 if you can still find someone to make one for you. I got my wire-in harness through ludespeed and it was $150 i think. I wouldn't recommend wire-in unless you are VERY good at soldering and wiring diagrams and your factory harness has already been cut and spliced and screwed up by the previous owner of your car- like mine was. The serial link runs around $75
So overall you are close to $1900 or so |

Well some words of advice from someone that bought their Link+ used. First of all make sure the unit is coming from another Subaru similar to yours. I bought mine off a guy in NCali that had it installed in a Miata. When the Links are originally ordered from LinkUSA they are configured for the specific application. Thing is that the Links have top boards inside them that translates the crank trigger signal and also controls other solenoids/sensors like the Stepper Motor type idle control valve. If you want to cheap out on the harness buy a used stock ECU and unsolder the plug off the board, then adapt the Links harness to it. Here is a link to the wiring for a 2.5RS to Link+. If you’re not up for the job of soldering all that together, come up with all the parts, shipping cost, and I'll do the work for a small fee.
http://www.miamiracing.com/extra/link_system_wiring.htm Also be aware that there are a few different versions of the link firmware. The firmware is the actual software written in the Link+ micro processor. Make sure your getting a newer version of this firmware. LinkUSA charges $99 for the upgrade and this could only be done by Link. There are a few companies out there that add there own firmware to the Link, like for example FlyingMiata. As for a BaseMap, the only thing you can do is reload the link. The Link has a basemap written inside of it that will at least get your car started. From there you have to adjust the idle and the fuel curves. I have to admit I'm not a Link+ tuning guru YET, but if there is any help that I can give, I will. George http://www.miamiracing.com |

The truth comes out, I guess that is why I am considering buying a new from a dealer in Maryland and get it professionally installed. Piece of mind, we will see
Side note, just got from the phone with the tuners up in Baltimore, around 2500 hundred for a new link plus, serial port, installation and a base map tune. Doesn't seem so bad after all if it gives you piece of mind ya know Last edited by FutureSTIer; 04-27-2004 at 01:36 PM. |
