Default If there is anyone out there - Please Help

This is the situation. I had my car lowered this past weekend. After I took it home I started hearing noises. I took it to a shop and was told that it was for 2 reasons. The first was because the blocking plate was hitting against the rotor, which they fixed. The second, they think is a rear differential. The guy also told me that it's the second impreza he had within 2 weeks that has possible differential issues. The other car was a wrx with 10000 miles. I currently have 45k on mine. If it is the differential, is it possible that the dealership will cover it. All I wanted was to have my car lowered. And now I got all this. What do you all think?

Also, are there many people out there with imprezas who had problems with the differentials or the 2 of us was just a coincidence?

I expected an engine related thread by being in the naturally aspirated forum.....

Our dealer hasn't seen a differential failure in over 10yrs. Your mechanic says 2 in 2 weeks? I question your mechanic. What was the diagnosis, besides an impending house payment on their part?

If your rotor was rubbing the dustplate after they lowered it, they should've fixed it for free, since they bent it while working in the area....unless your bearings are shot.

Get a detailed diagnosis from the mechanic and get a second opinion.

Well, the problem with the differential is that it makes noise when the car is moving. If I'm accelerating then the noise goes away. If I'm cruising, then it makes noise and has a little bit of a vibration. If I let go of the gas then it just makes noise. The shop that I went to today weren't the ones who lowered my car. As usual when you are trying to save money, you only get bitten in the ass. I had my fiance's friend's boyfriend, who works on cars constantly for everybody, lower my car. Ever since, I've had the noise. He just lowered my car this past weekend. I now have SPT springs with KYB AGX struts. The set up is nice but the noise coming potentially out of the differential is crap. The mechanic also thought it might be the bearing but he wasn't sure. Since I have an appointment with the dealership on Sat regarding the recall, he told me to have them look into the problem. I just want the noise gone, that's all.

Just in case, some people have emptied the differential fluid thinking it was the oil. This may not be the case but check the fluid level.

Since you had the Kyb's put in what was the other noise? could it be that the guy just didnt tighten down the back struts tight enough and that would make a clunking noise, that is to bad that that guy ****ed up your ride so badly, i installed my kyb's my self to save money and at first i had to take care of some minor kinks but not it is all fine and dandy

The mechanic told me that the suspension was put in correctly and everything was tied down well. The noise is coming from the rear passenger side. It is possible that it might be a bearing. The mechanic gave me that as another possibility. If that is the case, would the dealership cover the repairs under powertrain warranty? I'm already over my bumper to bumper so was just curious. If not, how much would it cost to replace a bearing?

It could be a wheel bearing. Those break often on Impreza's.

Bearing more than likely from that statement, the diff would have a more central sound. I have a friend who paid $350-380 to have one replaced. Personally I bought the parts roughly $80-90, then took off the hub assembly and took it to a machine shop to have it pressed out and the new one pressed in. I spent about $150 total.

What would cause a wheel bearing to go? Also, would the powertrain warranty cover it?
