Default AutoX videos from yesterday

First event of the year...first event with the camera and actual tires...and it pours. My runs weren't as bad as some though, and it was more my timidness then anything that made me improve so much during the day. I'll do something about the wind noise btw...I put the mic on the passanger seat and it was picking up all the wind from the storm.

Nice quality videos, Stu. As much as I hate it, I've gotten to where I close the windows during my runs so I don't get wind noise in the mic. Works fine with the sunroof open, though. How do you like the Legacy in the rain? This is my 4th year autocrossing, and strange as it may seem, I've never gotten to run in the rain. I keep hoping, though. I just want to see how much fun it would be. I use my videos for sef-education, so I don't have it zoomed out at all. That way I can see what my hands are doing. Like a couple of times when I've spun, I was able to see that basically, I just didn't move my hands fast enough. I like the zoomed out view like you did better, though, as far as getting to see the course.

Rich

You can see some of mine here . I don't have any 'real' space on the internet, so I just stuck them in my Yahoo briefcase.

Thanks, I didn't release how bad the wind from the mic was during the event. My camera came with an external mic/remote, I'm going to test it out sometime this week to see if it can deal with the wind noise any better.

My car was GREAT in the rain, I got Kumho 712's last week and it literally felt just like it was dry out.

I'm going to work on the camera placement this week. I only got the mount in the front seat (after swapping back to stock seats from my usual STi one) and didn't play with the setup at all. The camera wasn't zoomed in at all, it was just setup almost at the level of my head, but obviously much farther to the right.

I'm considering just getting a harness and going back to HS (in STS because of the seats ) because I grew just enough during the off season that when I wear a helmet I have to recline very far back in the seats to not be uncomfortable (like my first run.) It'll also depend on whether it is going to rain again this event...I beat the regular HS guys by over 3 seconds this event (which sucks in my regions point standings, times are given by how far off you are from the leader, so I might have given up 30 points this weekend) so I might just swap in the old driver seat and see how it goes the rest of the season.

What I did to cut down on wind noise was to cover the mic up with masking tape or painter's tape (less tacky). If you use a mic-in (like an external mic) I just put it under the passenger seat carpet or if you guys have this the pocket behind the seat.

Ditto that on the mic. Put it in a location away from the window. I use to put mine on the AC vent by the window but it got wat too much wind buffer.

Under the passenger seat, in the engine compartment, back passenger seat, interior wall close to firewall to try to get more engine sounds.

You can hear varying qualities of sound in my videos here: http://www.skuttle.com/sccaautocross.html

Enjoy,

Thanks for the tips on reducing the wind noise, I'll def do something about it for next week, the tape sounds like a good idea.
