Post POSSIBLE BEST MY2K INTAKE?

Pretty much do like Shiv did and run a pipe into the fenderwell but why tape up that other hole? Why not run some ducting from front bumper vent into that hole? Cold air "ramming" into that wheelwell and being pulled out by the intake! Of course with a panel filter in stock airbox.

Ideas as to why or why not this is a good idea?

Higher risk of pulling in water into the intake that way.

Angry

Ok, this is the last of the last warnings. If I see all caps anywhere on the board, the person responsible for it will have his message count reset to 0 and loose his or her Specialist title.

Question

What?

Who was using all caps? Where?

Talking

Hmmm... if the hose ran into the first hole but was not connected to the intake, would there be enuff vaccum to pull water thru that hose into the fender well? I guess water could work its way up the hose, but if there were a couple drain holes along the way... anyone else tried this or have any thoughts?

I just thought of something. What if you got a large cylindrical (or rectangular) box that is connected right next to the fenderwell (kind of like the silencer but w/o all the restrictive bends inside). The intake connection will be a little to the top of the box, so that it will be practically impossible for water to get sucked in!

Also, this will work well, IMHO, with a cone filter! The cone filter will fit into the cylinder/rectangle and only suck in cold air from the fenderwell. Of course, you would have to mold the cylinder/rectangle as two half and attach them (just like our current filter box).

What do you guys think? I may look into making something like this if it is plausible.

Sorry Imprezer, I was just anxious to post my idea. Won't happen again.

O.k. So far I think the best method for anti-water (to play it reallly safe) would be to use a cone filter in a little box like Shiv did (attached to the wheelwell) with the piping going from the top of the box to the trottle. (Hey that box will also double as a plenum no?) Then my fabulous tube from bumper vent to the other hole in wheelwell. Oh man, we got something now!

Oh and I'd like it to be called the

Just FYI, AEM (makers of a lot of cold-air intakes for asain cars) have an "anti-slurp" valve that they have created that allows them to dip the filter all the way into a bucket of water and still not have it suck in any water. Personally I can't wait to see how that works... should be really cool.

Sorry, I thought you meant running the tube from the vent in the front fender directly into the intake.

I think the tube from the front fender is great, and use it on my sentra se-r now, but, makes it hard to check/change/clean your filter. See my other post on intakes MY00 today for more ideas and plans for an install fest this weekend.
