Consider it a Want To Buy or a Where To Buy thread.

I'm coming into the market for some summer rubber and some 17s (or possibly 18s, but prefer 17s). Should I just keep digging around the boards and eBay until I find something I want to pick up, or does anyone have recommendations for shops? Buying second hand is a great way to keep the costs down, and I have no real need to get some brand spanking new.

As for rims, I'm not really overly partial to anything (ie I'm not like 'I must have Rota Subzeros with a gunmetal finish and polished lip in 255/50/R18 wrapped in Kumo Blah Blah Blahs...). Just looking for some nice looking 17s that'll look good on an '04 WRB, and some tires that will last for a while (no R compound needed here).

So, anyone unloading some 17" rims and tires around SE Michigan, or got a hookup. I'm not looking to spend a bundle, but around $700 perhaps?

(Feel free to kick me in the ass and tell me $700 won't buy me crap. I know buying new rubber would cost me around 400 alone...)

-Jeff, cheap skate

Jeff: If you want cheap wheels go through www.oakos.com Dave is in Oxford and usually gives a deal to locals. That will be pretty much as cheap as you can go for brand new wheels.

For tires I went through Discount because one of the Mazda guys (that you know from the drives) works there and ended up saving me $13 on each tire. Plus he didn't charge me for anything else like valve stems, balancing, disposal, etc.

I went to the Discount in Ann Arbor. I won't give out his name though since he only does deals for people he knows. Sorry.

Discount has pretty good prices though anyway, and you can always haggle them down on price and have them throw stuff in for free. I just didn't have to deal with that.

Suprisingly enough, Belle Tire has very good deals on wheel/tire packages.

I had Discount Tire in Dearborn match an online price for some Rota SubZeros. I was able to get their 12 months same as cash financing too.

I got my Tarmac II's (still like how they call them Grp. A's better) from Dave. Great guy, great service, etc. etc. etc...

Buy from Dave because they're having a kid in a few months.

I went to a Disount Tire near him (across from Great Lakes Crossing) and the guys there did a fantabulous job. I ordered them from the shop a few days prior to install and they do the same $$$ quoted on their website. Set up an install day and got them mounted up.

They mounted them with the greatest of care (no scratches and they used stick on weights not the normal ones.) They were really stoked on the design and colour.

Dave at Oakos is great, even though Discount Tire gave me a good deal, if I had to do it again, I'd go through Dave. Give him a call, sometimes if you pick up an order, he'll pass on the "free shipping" cost savings to you.

Discount Tire took over a month to get my rims, Oakos has them in stock.

I might be selling my 17" SDR's with Yokohama ES100's (225/45/17) soon.

The wheels are in good condition and about 90% thread left on the wheels I'm guessing. Bought at discount tire w/ ex. warranty. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Pics: (There are centercaps but the reflection from the camera flash makes them hard to tell)

Jeff, I've got a set of Bridgestone SO-3 225/45X17 sittin in my garage. They have about 40% tread left but you can have them for $120. Great tires.

EDIT: Gary Indiana... that's a bit far, and shipping isn't easy for tires. Wish I could have taken you up on the deal.

Bump and a response. S-03 guy, maybe meet me half way to pick up the tires? I'm going to hit up Oakos Auto and see what kind of deals I can get, and look around for tires, but I don't think I can beat 120 for some S-03s (I know I can't). This is so hard. Trying to find someone local to buy rims and tires, or buying seperate from two people and getting them mounted.

Wish this was easier.

If you have rims/tires for sale in SE (or Central, or Whatever) MI, drop me a PM.
