Default HELP!!! my 1.8 keeps stalling

recently my 95 1.8 keeps stalling at an idle and doesn't want to restart. it takes several minutes of trying to get it to turn over before it finally starts. i feel a hesitation when i'm idling so i try to keep the rpm's a little higher(so it won't stall). i changed the plugs and wires and fuel filter and that didn't work. any ideas?

jay

possibly clogged or bad IAC (if your car has one?). responds well to cleaning with carb/throttle body cleaner - reponds quite poorly to disassembly though - delicate and tricky to keep calibrated.

Crank angle sensor. Shouldn't cost more than $80 from a Subaru dealer and takes about 15 minutes to change.

I had a '95 1.8 AWD sedan with similar symptoms. My car did everything but the random stalling.

This was a known problem on many '95 and '95 Imprezas and some Legacies.

Hope this helps.

I have a MY95 1.8ltr also... mine was doing the same thing awhile back and my mechanic, whom used to work for AustinSubaru years ago, resolved mine as the first signs of a burned valve... haven't cracked the motor open to see if that was the exact problem though... we just swapped the motor for now since I had another MY95...
