Default Adding Bulstering to USDM STI seats

Can anyone point me to a thread started about this? I found one on imprezawrxsti.com, but wasn't too helpful. I would love to see pics of install w/ tips.
These seats are just terrible...I had better bolstering on my Impreza LX seats. Seriously. Also thinking about just getting some STI recanos or JDM STI (which i have sat in and think are freakin perfect). I would like not to go through this hassle and $ though.

I'm getting JDM's from Chaste (jeff, youda man) . You can get fronts only , sell your usdm's, and be into it for like $200.

I've got people lined up to buy my old ones. The usdm stis fit some great, not others.

I bought some of those little kidney pays from Sparco to try to add some hug to my seats, and they do help, and only cost $22. I also stick a sparco lumbar pad under the front of my thighs to make a deeper well for my generous derriere. It feels good for zippy driving, but the pads need to be stitched to the seat to stay there, because they have nothing for the velcro on the pads to grip.

Question

I've been wondering about recushioning jobs, too. I want new seats in my RS but might consider work on my OE seats (which have grey leather on them).

I'd like to have softer cushions under my butt and maybe on my back and headrest, then add lumbar support and stiffen the side and thigh bolsters.

Did you add the sparco kidney pads underneath the covers?
Man...we gotta figure something out that can't be too expensive or difficult. I should start selling a skinny ass kit for these seats.

try a search in imprezawrxsti.com
I found a thread that has a little bit of detail the other day

You should try out the 2002/2003 WRX seats. Here is a picture of the set I have in my L:

You could probably make money and get better seats.

2002/2003 only. The 2004 have less support.

Nice Paul, but what of the seats sitting too high in the GC?

I know that's a subjective thing (and I also know you're not exactly tall ), but even if the seat raised an inch, it'd be too much for me. Kind of the opposite effect of what I'm looking for.

The driver seat is height adjustable, so I don't see it being any different than the other seat. I don't have a sun roof either (like an RS, so the headliner might be lower in your car). Heather doesn't mind the height increase at all, she is 5' tall though.

Look at where the head rest is though, it isn't even close to the headliner. You'd have to be pretty tall to have issues with the height. Now, maybe not liking the seat position/options, but I'd recommend trying it out. It only raised the seat maybe an inch, mostly up front.

The picture I posted above is of a 2002 seat. the 2003's are the same. It is slow to load, sorry. Just give it a minute or so.

Also, don't take my word for it. Look for a local dealer with a 2002 or 2003 used model on the lot. Go sit in it. Let me know what you think. I went from stock 2001 L seats to these. I loved them when I had a 2002 WRX, so I was happy to get a set again. I've never had a seat with more support in a car though.

Paul,

I'm 5'11" and my head goes a couple inches higher than the headrest at all times.

I know that pretty much anybody (including myself) would happily do a 1:1 trade for STi seats. You could probably make at least $1-200 on the trade, though. Many people will be willing to help you out.

I think he'd make more money. I see STI seats selling for ~$600-$800. Try a search. I paid $250 from my set of WRX front seats.

the only thing that would worry me about stuffing the sti seats is popping the stitching.

Well just finished doing the sidebolsters on seats, and man what a difference. It was really easy and only took about 45min to do. I used pipe insulator and cut it to a length of 17in, and I didn't trim any of the width off. Then cut the top portion into a right-angle triangle to match the top of the bolster. Fit like a charm.

I'll do the bottom part of the seat this weekend cause I gotta take out some of the hogrings to get it where I want it.

If I can get a camera sure. When it's all installed you can't see any difference though. I'll see if I can get a friend with a camera to come over this weekend when I do the bottom portion of my seats.

I need to ADD some foam to the drivers side left bolster in my V6s...does anyone know if the cover comes off? Material is still good, the foam is starting to wear inside a bit

You see right under were the belt touches the seat...a small little dimple?

this has happened before on all the other cars Ive had with sport seats...ths time I want to get it before it becomes a problem.

If yours don't have the zipper on the back I'm sure it'll still have the sealer thing on the bottom (on the back of the seat just where the two portions of the seat meet). It's like a Glad bag seal. If you don't have those then you'll have to take the seat out and undo the hogrings. Not a big deal just make sure you have new hogrings and the tools you need to install em. The fabric isn't glued to the seat so all you have to do is pull the fabric back and install the pipe foam.

No problem. My issue is that I ordered leather with my car when I bought it, so what would be a pretty simple $600ish purchase for new GC WRX seats (same as yours, without the fancy cloth) will turn out to be more expensive, since I'd need leather. So I'll probably save up for some Cobras or something.

Definitely a hot car!!! I suggest a Ver6 front grille (or 22B replica) and some 22B hood vents.

Hey where did you get that front plate? I need to find one, since I'm in PA now and we don't need front plates.
