Default CD compilation question

Just formatted my computer recently and I need to compile a CD for a friend now. Installed Nero, inserted an empty CD, clicked Burn CD and a window pops up asking me to insert an empty CD. It then automatically jump to save Image burn.

Apparently my CD RW is not detecting a CD in it. What is wrong with it? Tried looking for a driver on MSI but can't find it.

System info:
MoBo: Asus P4S8X
Win 2000
MSI CD RW 48x 16x 48x
IBM Black CD ROM 52X

I need one for an old-school HP 8100
How much do new internal burners cost? Mine is close to 5-6 years old

CD Burner are cheap as hell these days. However, I don't have much luck with Sony and Lite-On for some odd reason. I have a Yamaha and it's good but they stop making burners. ATIC list a LG DVD read with CD-RW for like 70 bucks.

TS: In Nero make sure you select the correct burner first and then check the medium info before burning. What brand of blanks are you using?? If you're using those cheap ass ones from night market, your burner may not like them.

Hmmm try another brand first. See if you can get something like Fuji, TDK, Maxell, or Verbatim. But first make sure you install all the damn patches, drivers, and updates.

Anitec has ones for $35, this is just a CD burner, no DVD

Or try using a different burner, windows media player can burn CD's, just to see if it is the player or not, you could also un-install and then re-install nero. You can also test your burner in the control panel to see if it is working right

Just watch out, the cheap new DVD RW drives are also very annoying! I got a cheap Liteon ($139) 8x +/- RW DVD and the thing won't rip DVDs that are encrypted! I have to use my dvd rom for ripping, the software was total crap, and it's very CPU intensive when seeking, so it totally locks up the machine when you put in a disc! Argh! I should of paid more for a Plextor or Asus..

Are you trying to encode the DVD or make another copy? Try using Clone-CD if you want to copy. www.divx-digest.com got some tools for ripping and encoding videos.

On my new Liteon all software gives an encryption error, but all new/old software works with the DVD ROM.. My personal preference is DVD Shrink (RIP/Compress) + Nero Buring ROM (latest versions burn DVD video).

Leo, try going into the Recorder menu up top, seelct "Choose Recorder." Be sure your CD-Writer drive is selected and not "Image Recorder."

Lemme know if that works out for u or not.

Well that depend on what verison of the Nero came with your CD burner. If you have a 5.x.x you can only upgrade to the latest 5.0 verison but not a 6.0.

thanks Alex... also some questions regarding to computers.... anyone have any ideas why would my computer run so slow if it has anything to do with internet? Like loading my IE or loading MSN to loading an online game. It was working fine until I downloaded Kazaa but I set it to run whenever I click it instead of startup when connected to internet.

Uuuh... wow what a funny site.. Lots of fancy wording to confuse and baffle.. The most important question isn't answered :

How does this software hide my IP but still knows what my IP address is?

I love how they state the obvious.. MP3 is a standard, it's not illegal.. Duuuh.. But they don't point out that downloading copyrighted content, in any format, with any software, is still illegal.. Duuuh..
