Default Who's still using the stock HU for your system?

Just wondering who's using the stock 6-Disc HU with an amp and sub, if anyone. I'm fully aware that an aftermarket HU will sound tons better, but I already had a Pioneer 850 stolen and want to keep it stock for a little while.

If you're still using it give me some feedback or problems you ran into. Thanks!

I'm running the stock deck with a 370WRMS Sony Amp and a 12" Diamond Audio CM3. I'm using a LOC from http://www.davidnavone.com

It sounds pretty good although the sound with the stock deck can get a little "muddy" at times. An equalizer would help immensly since the stock deck only lets you adjust bass and treble. It's fine for me but if you're an audiophile you'll probably want to upgrade.

DON'T SAY THAT WORD "AUDIOP..." when in this forum, you don't know the threads that have gone to hell because of this word

(I started to plan my system with the stocker, but instead opted to use a pioneer headunit i had from another vehicle I had, miss the 6 disc, but life is moreover easier and sweeter sounding).

Yeah, that sort of language is only tolerated in OT

Thanks so far guys, I might just end up buying a new HU, as much as I don't want to.

after planning my system with the oem, I too got swayed away. Mainly due to the lack of proper equalizer controls (oem controls have too much swing, and apparently a loudness "feature" is built into the unit further distorting the output (at higher volumes (which could be overcome with a High voltage Line Output Converter (but seems the quality is still lacking)))).
[like an onion?]

I went with a Clarion deck because it looks so plain when switched off, very OEM. I have also seen pix of a stock HU face cut off and used as a flip-down cover for the 'real' HU behind it. Would take some fabrication skills though.
Another option might be the very nice McIntosh unit that was an option with the Legacy last year or the year before, if you can find one for sale.
