Default Discounted tire/wheel shipping

I remember coming across a thread that had a post that went something along these lines:

Person 1: "How is it that TireRack can ship tires so cheaply?"

Person 2: "It's because TireRack ships in volume. But even for a regular joe, shipping wheels shouldn't ever be expensive. Just go to FedEX and tell them that you're shipping tires and they will give you a discount on the shipping. It shouldn't cost more than $60 to $70 for the set."

They might have said UPS or USPS instead of FedEx. I can't really remember.

I unfortunately can't find this thread anymore despite tons of searching. Does anybody remember this one, or know anyhting about discounted shipping rates for wheels/tires through certain shippers?
