Default everyone double check their insurance...

... because i didn't

for 2 years i've had a passive immobilizer in my car and i did tell the insurance adjuster that i had one on the previous times i've renewed.

well i went to renew it again yesterday and found out that it was left out... a $100 savings over 2 years that i missed out

furthermore... replacement cost coverage into the 3rd year of ownership since new does not include fire and theft. the reason i was given was because of fraud, ie. people torching or arranging to have their car stolen to collect insurance because they know 3 years is the maximum for replacement cost coverage.

i'm also wondering who here bought excess UMP. i thought until yesterday that 3rd party liability covered that, but i was wrong. 3rd party only covers me if someone sues me in an accident, but doesn't cover me if i sue someone else who doesn't have coverage at all ... it was $25 for $1m.

And don't forget to check your 10yrs drivers discount. It could be $100 or more as well.

Where are you going for your insurance BT? My agent always makes sure I get as much discount as possible or am at least covered in the way I want. They are very thorough.

what is this called in icbc lingo? because i can't find any reference to it anywhere

just realized i've had a license for 15 years now... for the kids out there, that was back when the driving test involved multiple choice on paper and a writing instrument called a pencil

Experienced driver's discount, not senior's discount

I was happy to see the price difference for me between my old RS and higher model Impreza's only spans up to $500 difference.

Sucks to hear BT

If everybody in your household or the principle operators have 10 years of more experience of driving you are eligible for a nice discount.

As for Excess UMP, very few people buy it.

i'm looking at my paperwork... it says "principal operator driving vehicle must have held valid license for 10 years" .... is this what everyone is talking about?

so if i get hit by an uninsured driver and icbc won't compensate me fully... will i be screwed if i don't have excess ump if i sue the other party and they don't have a dime?

Yes you qualify. They can look it up using your driver's license easy.

Replacement insurance is sure expensive though. I was quoted ~$300 with discount just for that option!

My thrid year replaceemnt coverage is split into two. One part is $16, the other is $896! Needless to say, I'll be cancelling the big part in a few days. It's not worth the pricetag.
