Default Track day tire question.. what to do..

I have an HPDE coming up in a month. I have 3 sets of wheels/tires in the arsenal:
-Ver7 wheels + daily driving S03's. About 4/32 left. Bought 3 of them used and had a 4th one shaved to match. The original owner was not 100% sure they are patch-free. I don't remember seeing any patches when they were unmounted but I didn't look carefully (dumb). Is there any possibility a visual inspection of the outside of the tire would miss something like that?
-Subzeroes + RE040's. One tire has 1 patch, one tire has two, other two are clean. I have autox'ed on them just fine but I fear tracking them. There is not a lot of tread left, probably 3/32 or less.
-Stock wheels + RE92's. I think I've seen a couple "just go on the RE92's and learn your limits" posts on here, and I did autox on em for most of last year for that reason. (this is a fresh set)

I have been thinking about shelving the S03's, and just daily driving on the 040's til they are kicked and getting some Azenis; that might win out. Just soliciting ideas.

thanks,
john

Did someone say track day

do you have an autocross class to consider?

Personally I've had good luck with the A032R if you can get them in the size you want. I'd either go with those (because you can run them full depth) or some RA-1 if you want some stick without wearing through a set of tires in a weekend.

I'm in STX for the rest of the season (subscription), so yeah. And this is going to be my first HPDE evAr so I don't want R-tires With luck I will be picking up a Miata/MR2 in the offseason for beater/track duty anyways (don't want to stuff the WRX).

I tracked on my S-03's after some pretty extensive autocrossing. After the track day, my tires were dangerously bald.. but, hey... it was a blast (track day, then autocross two days later).

The S-03's aren't going to blow you away. But, they're better than hole-punched tires, and much grippier than stock tires. You really couldn't tell if it's been patched from the outside. A plug, you could see.

You would have absolutely no problem trackday-ing on patched tires. So, even if those S-03's are patched, you'll be fine.

I'd go with the S03's, but be aware you will thrash them much harder on track than you may be used to in an autox. They work pretty well for street tires...

S03's sound like the best bet.
