Question RE92 Auto-X Pressure, spare tire, etc.

I've done a search regarding the tire pressure to use w/ RE92 for auto-x, and the consensus seems to be around 45F/39R. I'm wondering if these are cold tire pressures or warm tire ones. Also, it'll prob. be around 80 degrees on Sunday, does that play into changing the pressures?

Do you guys run w/ or w/o the spare and jack in the trunk? W/O = lighter, W/ = better weight balance???

I'm new to this (first time), so I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks!
Stephen

this doesn't really pertain much to your post, but glad you'll make it. Looking forward to meeting you on Sun.

I don't think the spare and jack will make much of a weight difference, but some will say otherwise. See you on Sun!!

Thanks, Strepto! Man... you responde fast! What do you do, sit there waiting for new messages?

I'm really looking forward to auto-x and seeing you guys. This is something I've been itching to do, and now I finally have some time to do it!

I think last autocross I ran my RE92's 45f/40r. I also have a whiteline adj. sway bar set to 22mm so it helped a lot. If you have that same setup, expect the car to be "ass-happy" and get used to that rear end breaking out all over the place.

Cool

Those tire pressures are probably cold. You
will definately get other opinions on the
"right" pressure, but sometimes driver input
makes the biggest difference. Walk the track
with an experienced autoxer and learn about
reading the course and taking the proper
"lines". Back to tire pressures...start high
so that you don't roll your tires too bad
on your first adrenaline filled run, and let
air out as you go if it is needed. The main
thing is have a blast! Good Luck!

Doh! Sorry, yeah my 45f/40r is cold pressures. It had sat about a good 2 hours before I checked and filled up to that pressure.

I've seen people in my region running at something like 50F/40R. The higher the better when using RE92's is my impression. Tire pressures probably won't be too critical since the tires are junk.

Wink

The funny thing is that on any given Sunday,
well driven RE92's can, and have won races!
Maybe not FTD, but winner of a class...STS
for example. Also, worn tires will do better
than newer ones, due to less rubber squirm.

(eh ColinL, do I sound like I know what I'm
talking about? )

Last Sunday I was running 45F/39R cold pressure to start with then when the tires were warm after first run I let 2 lbs out of the front. Helped alot! I don't think removing the spare tire/jack/etc will be of great help. I know people who don't take these out and they win their classes.

Lightbulb

I take everything out of the car. Spare tire, jack, fiber-board spare tire cover, and the carpet. The difference in weight probably has more effect on acceleration than on weight distribution. I'm not saying it's a big effect, but...
It gives my trunk monkey more room to run. (Sorry some one had to bring it up)

I never take out my tire jack or any of that crap, though the rest of the car is fairly empty ecept for some small stuff in my glove compartment and my two trunk monkeys (who sit up front with me since they're scared to help since I'm such a maniacal driver ).

Personally, both courses I've run have started you off directly into a slalom (I love courses like that since I accelerate fast into it and then still accelerate through it).

Ender, I run 45f/42r. You'll just have to guess, then start moving from there. Try to measure them cold, but that's not always possible. Now that I've installed aftermarket struts, I'm sure I'll have to change the pressures a bit.

If you don't hate them already, running an autocross on RE92's will convert you... they really do suck.

I'm dreading the PPIR autocross on my RE92's now. BTW, I checked my tires tonight and they were at 38psi all 4 corners.

I guess I'll stop by the gas station in the AM and add more air. Bedtime now...

Gotta be at PPIR before 8:30am tomorrow for racing school.
