Post Intake hoses and breather filters.

The 2 tubes going into the pipe; Someone was told that if he removed the tubes then performance would increase but emissions would be bad. And replacing the tubes with those mini breather filters. Would these filters be put on the pipe or the engine part where the tubes were? Or all 4 holes? What exactly are these tubes for? And are there any cheap alternatives (Like nothing there) or makes other than the Weapon-R?

I got the weapon r intake and found that the kit was incomplete. And even if I bought more hoses etc, it still wouldn't all fit. So I bought the K&N breathers and mounted them straight to the heads. Power increase? Doubt it. Less crap in the engine compartment? Definitely. Smog? NOt legal.

Some have mounted those small breathers at
the end of short lengths of hose so it would
be farther for the oil to travel, but the
fact remains that the breather filters will
be coated with engine oil eventually, and
be a real mess cleaning them. What I have
done is cut a short (4") aluminum "stack",
put on 3 self tapping hose fittings and just
connected silicone hoses to replace the
factory ones. I have a "ricey" yellow color
scheme going on now! Yellow cone filter,
yellow silicone reducer (for the 3" stack to
mount directly on the T/B), and yellow hoses! Don't laugh! My Suby is BRP BTW!
Anyways as I have posted many times before,
this allows me to run cool air with an open
hood scoop. If you search archives I used to
be "SubyRS".

Cool

Hi guys..

Oil can (and does get) into the intake system.. the oil comes mainly from the cam covers.

What you need is an oil catch can fitting... plumbing the breathers into that.. and then fitting a filter onto the can... and plumbing the drain into the sump. Or block it off. If you block the drain off, then you can get rid of the filter and connect it back into the intake.

Oil in the intake system will affect performance... it lowers the RON of the fuel.

Wink

Slide, be careful with those breathers! Oil
mist is what comes out of those ports on
the covers. Oil WILL accumulate and eventually spray out when you rev high!
Just speaking from experience!
