I belive you have to use the MSD DIS digital ignition because of our distributor-less ignition.

The TecII comes with new coil though

i tried to find any aftermarket ignition upgrade for my 99, but MSD does not fit and called Jacobs elecr. to see what they've got but their answer was that they tried their power pack but no HP changes were found. they belive that our ignition is good enough and not to mess with it.
i guess that if you go Turbo you'll need a computer to reprogram the ignition timing that's all.

I havea 95 with the dis 2. Itworks. Gas mileage improves. As for hp i haven't checked w/ the g-tech. But as for the stock being great. I doubt it. One small coil for two cylinders. And the ignitor is about the size of a match book. If you run any sort of turbo or s/c and no tech-II then the msd is great for ignition retard and a soft rev limit for when you startto spike the rpm's.

i have spent about a week attempting to get an MSD DIS-2 to work with an 99 impreza coil-pack.

i don't think it will work at all with this year coil pack due to the fact that the ignitor and coil pack are in the same unit
unlike other years and models. like 95 and 92 etc..

i'm going attempt converting to an older coil pack type but as far as working with the new coil pack its a no go for me.
anyone else had any luck?

Idea....

Use a High output coil for a Ford 4.6L. They use two coil packs a car so each one has the correct 4 leads. The big problem useing them is the need for custom Plug wires. you would need to put the Ford coil ends on a set of 2.5RS wires. This may be possible just by asking Jacobs or MSD to make them....
