Question Non -Subie ? for DSM Owners

We were just installing a new Upper IC tube, and 1rst generation BOV, in our 95 Eagle Talon. But here is my ? What is the 1rst gen BOV supose to sound like. I have a feeling something is wrong with our BOV, Because it sounds like a half dead pigeon choking. And now when we downshift from 4th to 5th the car jerks/bucks. It didn't do this before we changed the BOV and Upper IC tube. There are no visible/noticible leaks in the system. So does anyone have ay ideas what is goin on??

Only running 15psi, but it did the same at lower psi with the new modification too!

Ideas?

Eric

Eric, try www.dsm.org and sign up for the mailing list.

There's a wealth of knowledge there and the sites been around since '92.

Check the archives there, etc....get involved.

That said...
The 1st gen las a louder "chirp" than the stock plastic one. It's a little deeper and a little more prolonged. BUt congrats...that is the single most important mod on a 2nd Gen if you want to go add aftermarket parts.

What you want to do is make sure that all the hoses are tightly cramped around the UIC pipe to the TB, that the 1st gen BOV is securely tightened.

Also, check the tubing from the turbo back to the IC to make sure that those clamps didn't come loose.

There are also a host of other factors that could be mod dependant. What other mods do you have on the car? I would assume that since you got the UIC pipe on that you have a K&N or similar cone filter.. are the clamps tight around that? Exhaust?

How about a real Boost guage? Air/Fuel Meter?
I'm wonding if you're running enough mods that you may need an upgraded fuel pump.

E-Mail Me. I'll go offline with you on this to discuss.

Hey KC,
I am on that mailing list and i was just looking for more info.. You can never have enough. Yes we have a K&N Kit on it, VDO boost gauge, Dave Brode Upper IC tube, just cleaned the intercooler, siliconed all the lines.. The BOV just sounds funny. I don't know if it suppose o sound like it does, but i was just wondering.

Jay UK,
Well if you heard this you would wonder too. I don't know if is really a half dead pigien - choking, But if is weird.

Eric - on my (well, now my little brother's since acquiring the S4), the stock BOV sounds just like my first gen. HKS BOV (the plastic one, not the metal SSBV) that I used to use on my ZX-Turbo.....a nice, quick "pffft" sound (pretty loud too). This is using a stage 3, clipped 16G at 1.4 bar (made the same sound at lower boost too). Did you crush the new BOV? If so, maybe you crushed it too much. Also, make sure all the hoses are clamped TIGHT, and there are no vacuum leaks.

Also, where can I pick up an upper IC ppe, with a cushed BOV for the GVR4?

I believe the UIC pipes would still fit.

Adam,
We didn't crush it. Maybe after a tubro upgrade T28-28mmm... We got the UIC Tube from dave brode. I am sure he has one for you vr4 too. After plying tonight we think that the BOV is faulty and that is why we are getting the bucking between gears. It just isn't releasing like is suppose to. You wouldn't happen to have an extra used 1rst gen BOV would ya? We are running outa ideas.. But it has to be the BOV.. Thanks for your help guys. I know it wasn't subie but atleast we can work together on other projects.

The UIC pipe is totally different for a Galant. The Galant comes w/a FMIC from the factory, not the Talon SMIC. It still sucks though, it's not a real FMIC.
