Question

I'm not Mr. Suspension, so forgive my ignorism...

Are struts dampened differently depending on the weight of the car and the type of ride the manufacturer is after (ie, sport, luxury), or is it a combination with the springs as well? Could this explain the difference in price for the Legacy strut?

Thanks,
-Kagan

Post

The weight of the car has something to do with it, but the Legacy is much closer in weight to the SVX than the Impreza is.

Question Subaru Front Struts are cross compatible?

Front shocks on the Subaru SVX are dimensionally identical to the struts on the Impreza/Legacy.
I did not check with a caliper, but the only difference I could tell between the struts was the metal tabs and such welded onto the base strut unit for brake lines/sway bars, etc.

The cost of an SVX strut, part #20311PA001 is $99.95
The cost of a 2.5RS strut, part #20311FA860 is $99.95
The cost of a Forester strut, part #20310FC020 is also $99.95.

Coincidence? I think not Mr. Bigglesworth!

Strangely, a Legacy strut is only $64.95. WTF?
